Top Five Fabulous French Restaurants

28 July, 2010

From Parisian romance to Gallic chic, here are some of the best places to dine like a Frenchman (or woman) this summer. No matter if you’re looking for a private kitchen, charming bistro or Michelin-starred feast, we’ve got it covered!

The Press Room
108 Hollywood Road, Sheung Wan – 2525 3444
The Press Room serves unpretentious and yummy food in a relaxed and bistro-style environment. Classic starters include steak tartare, escargots and terrine of chicken, while winning main courses, of which our summer favourites include moules mariniere and frites, hit that comfort food spot.

Chez Patrick
G/F, 26 Peel Street, Soho, Central – 2541 1401
The warm and welcoming Chef Patrick often meets and greets guests at this intimate and authentic French restaurant in Soho. You won’t find nouvelle cuisine here, but if you’re looking for classic fare and heaps of French charm, you can’t go wrong.

23 Wing Fung Street, Wan Chai – 2861 3130
Cépage’s effortless and inventive take on traditional French cuisine with a Mediterranean twist has come to the Star Street area, and paired with the restaurant’s killer wine list, certainly raises the bar. A fabulous place to splurge or celebrate, their tasting menus allow you to sample some of the restaurant’s best dishes.

8 Finance Street, Central – 3196 8888
One of only two restaurants in the city that holds three Michelin stars, the quality of Chef Vincent Thierry’s contemporary French cuisine speaks for itself. Breathtaking harbour views and a cheese selection to die for make this the perfect place for a special evening.

12/F, Ying Kong Mansion, 2 – 6 Yee Wo Street, Causeway Bay – 2881 6662
A private French kitchen in the middle of Causeway Bay, traditional dishes such as duck confit and steak are firm favourites, while the desserts are to die for – their crème brulee and mango soufflé are divine. Reasonably priced, with a minimum spend of HKD 320 per person, it’s BYOB – and no corkage charge either.
