The ultimate spring/summer shoe & bag round-up

9 April, 2013

By now you’ve probably seen the shows, browsed the mags and created your must-have list for the new season (whatever did we do before Pinterest?!) – and I bet that a new pair of shoes or two is on that list of yours! To help you on your shoe shopping quest, we’ve made the rounds at both the high-end and the high street and rolled up all our fab finds into this guide for what should be on your feet this season!

After a gander at this, you will know what we’re loving, what is trending and where you can score the goods… oh, and we couldn’t resist throwing a few fun bags in here too. Beware bank account – the ultimate Sassy spring/summer shoe (and bag!) round-up is here!

GET YOUR SHINE ON!

First on our trend hit list are the shiny shoes that make a statement! Be it a full-on metallic pump or a flash of glitter on the heel, you are sure to shine.

SAMBAG and Pedder Red show us how to work this trend for the day in a basket weave wedge and an acrylic cap-toe flat… but when night falls, it’s time to amp it up! Transform your LBD into OTT glam with these shimmering Gianvito Rossi pumps and this Kotur clutch (above), or let these Rupert Sanderson multi-coloured arrow shoes point the fashion forward way!

If you don’t want to make a serious shoe-vestment, then these silvery options from Steve Madden and Zara let you try the trend for less.

GO FOR GOLD

Brands across the board are embraced the gleaming trend this season, with shoes in every shape and style showcasing a bit of gold goodness! Pedder Red dedicated a whole display to the gilded shoe whilst Rupert Sanderson (below), preferred a glint of gold painted up the heel and on to the sole for a more subtle shiny statement. What’s more, Rupert Sanderson has just opened a brand spanking new store in Elements mall,  giving us one more places to ogle the awesomeness of their signature Gold Collection (and with a few styles exclusive to the new store – so go check it out!).

Kotur shows us how to turn a snow globe into a work of wearable art while Dooney & Bourke made gold accessible with these easy to wear leather wristlet bags!

I also love the girly Robert Clergerie peep toes tied with a bow for date night, whilst this Nine West laser-cut number is perfect for hitting the dance floor with the girls! If you want something that is super easy to wear, then grab the SAMBAG flat sandals or the rose gold Zara ankle strap number! Decisions decisions…

EMBELLISH IT

Why be basic when there are so many fabulous in-your-face creations hitting the shelves?! Let’s start simple – try rocking these woven textures from Robert Clergerie, Rupert Sanderson and Nine West beauts.

If “Danger” is your middle name, then don some studs for added edge. Everyone from Pedder Red to Steve Madden and Nine West are spiking it out for spring, so you’re spoilt for choice.

I must say though that my favourite pieces are the ones that are really out there (does that surprise anyone by now?!)! Sophia Webster’s bag and shoe collection was filled with pops of dots, tribal tones, laser cuts, dangling beads, and even a pair covered in flamingos. If birds of a feather flock together, then you too will love these parrot pumps from Rupert Sanderson! (Oh and did you see the butterfly covered variety from Aruna Seth? Check them out here!)

PRINTS CHARMING

We’ve seen print mixing for a few seasons but now it seems the trend has seeped all the way to the feet! Nine West and Roger Vivier (above) show us how to go graphic with our print party, while Aldo takes it tropical – hey, if we can’t get our island getaway this summer, we can at least bring it to our feet, right?!

Clockwise from top left: Aldo, Jimmy Choo, Zara, Roger Vivier, Zara, Kotur, Nine West, Rupert Sanderson

Roger Vivier gives us a pop of print with these pretty peep toe sandals, whilst Zara laces up the trend with a mix of prints and textures. Don’t forget to stash your shopping spree cash in this jingly coin-topped clutch from Jimmy Choo or maybe in this swimming cap inspired floral beaded clutch from Kotur!

If heels aren’t your bag, you can still get in on the print madness as both Pedder Red and Aldo show us that loafers can be lifted to another level. No matter what your budget, you can mix and match your way to sartorial perfection!

BRIGHTEN UP

Take a tip from our bright and cheerful weather (well… at time of writing anyway!) and lighten up your footwear – nothing says warm weather better than a bright shoe! I love this blue block heel from Aldo for spicing up a summer dress… And how comfy do these yellow loafers by ECCO look for travelling long haul in style?

No matter what colour you crave, Gianvito Rossi and SAMBAG can deliver with their extensive range of offerings. You’ll need a bag to carry all your purchases home in, so may I suggest one of these candy coloured Dooney & Bourke delights or maybe a huge tote from SAMBAG? They look good enough to eat!

BLACK AND WHITE AND FAB ALL OVER

If you prefer to see things in terms of black and white, then girl do I have the shoes for you! Whether you prefer to keep things simple in a white Aldo cap-toe or want to go graphic, we have your feet covered.

Clockwise from top left: Sophia Webster, Zara, Zara, Gianvito Rossi, Zara, Robert Clergerie, Gianvito Rossi

Robert Clergerie and Roger Vivier strap it all up in a simple ladylike way for the most classic take on the look. Meanwhile, Zara adds some stripes and colour blocking to the mix, whilst Sophia Webster goes full-on graphic glam! Pair these puppies with anything from your most basic black dress or suit to a full-on range of colour and prints. Black and white is THE trend right now, even if it has always been a go-to classic!

SKIN IS IN!

Yes, it is the year of the snake (check out my style guide for that here) and it seems like every designer is doing something to celebrate! However, leopard print also makes a few sneaky appearances too with Angeline Lee, Gianvito Rossi and Sophia Webster opting for spots with full-on leopard print.

Back to the serpents and Jimmy Choo and Pedder Red both painted their pythons to check two trend boxes in one shoe. You can also sling the snake over your shoulder with this Roger Vivier or Dooney & Bourke bag. My favourite of all of though are most definitely the tasselled heels from Jimmy Choo. If you can’t stand the stiletto, then there is also a flat version on offer too – everyone’s a winner!

WHO SAYS BEIGE IS BORING?

Even though there are so many delightfully crazy shoes to crave, there are times when you just need a shoe to blend in. I believe that it is essential for every woman to possess a pair of nude shoes for this purpose (oh yeah AND it elongates your legs)! No matter your price point, you can find a neutral to fit your style.

Clockwise from top left: Aldo, Lancel, Jimmy Choo, Steve Madden, ECCO

These Aldo pumps are the perfect go-to for the office while the Robert Clergerie and ECCO sandals would work well for the weekend. As for bags, Dooney & Bourke and SAMBAG are both at the ready to supply you with the perfect go everywhere bag! My favourite though has to be this wonderful ladylike Lancel bag, which comes in three perfectly neutral shades (and several animal prints through custom order too).

CASUAL & FUNCTIONAL

Even the most high-end fashionistas need to own a shoe that they can run around town in easily! Superga and Portovelo sneakers and slip-ons will take you wherever you need to go in comfort. They are also perfect for those upcoming junk trips that summer is sure to bring! And if rain threatens your fun (as it is bound to at some point in HK), then toss on these rubber wellies from Aigle and play on!

Clockwise from top left: SAMBAG, Dooney & Bourke, Havaianas, Dooney & Bourke

For your beach vacations, be sure to pack a pair of Havaianas (check out their fab store in LCX in Harbour City for flip-flops galore!) or maybe one of SAMBAG’s super chill flip-flops in your bag. And if you are in need of a big tote perfect for travel, may I suggest these from Dooney & Bourke?

***

Whew! By now you should have your spring and summer shoe picks sorted! I refuse to believe that you can get through this round-up without finding at least one pair to covet – I know I have!

The next step is to take inventory of what you already have and fill in the gaps with one (or more!) of these fab finds… Happy shopping!
