Galentine’s Day: Sassy’s Top Tips for Throwing the Perfect Girly Gathering

9 February, 2017

A Sweet and Sassy Soirée

Let’s be real, girls, Valentine’s Day has developed a real reputation for being a mushy holiday laden with big, cuddly bears and pink hearts – with the true sentiment lost amongst a bed of rose petals. And there’s no hard and fast rule to say that you must spend the day cosied up with your other half indulging in chocolate liqueurs, or dining by candle light (unless you want to, of course!), so why not mix it up and welcome cupid to the party with your girlfriends by your side? Cheeseboards, wine and cocktails a plenty, plan a day of pampering treats, cute activities and catching up.

In need of a little inspo? We’ve put together some quick and easy tips for planning a sweet and sassy soirée, with a little help from our good friends at BYDEAU and Sponge

Choose a Theme

Parties are always more fun when there’s a theme! Take Halloween for example, it wouldn’t be the spooky occasion it’s cracked up to be without a little haunting homeware, blood-coloured cocktails and ghoulish décor, so why shouldn’t Valentine’s Day get the same kind of love and attention?

flowers and heart shaped cookie

Why not forgo the tacky, heart-shaped bunting and keep it chic (and Sassy!) with simple yet sophisticated floral arrangements, pink champagne glasses (because, obviously) and baked goods? We wasted no time Instagramming BYDEAU’s beaut ‘Somebody Loves Youbouquet of spring greens and roses and tucking into a personalised heart-shaped cookie (homemade by Sassy sweet-treat fave, Sugar Sisters!).

Find an Ideal Venue

Location, location, location! With so many incredible places and hidden gems in Hong Kong, finding the perfect pit-stop is no easy feat. But whether you’re looking for something laid-back or with a bit more buzz, make sure that they can cater to your needs! We were lucky enough to be invited to BYDEAU’s gorgeous flower studio on Wellington Street, but depending on what you have planned, an intimate setting in someone’s home, breezy rooftop (mulled wine is still allowed, right?) or even a private area of a restaurant or bar would also work nicely.

Not sure where to begin? There’s plenty of awesome spaces suitable for hosting small get-togethers and larger scale events. From The White Loft (which is utterly dreamy) to a LUSH’s unique spa parties at their intimate location Mong Kok, take a load off and let someone else do the hard work for you. Or follow Sassy’s lead and get in touch with BYDEAU to enquire about their studio space, which can be customised and tweaked to suit your individual needs!

 Activities

Choosing the activities is the best part of planning of a party! And we decided that with Valentine’s Day on the horizon, what better way to spend the evening than by taking part in a little flower arranging? Aside from turning out to be extremely therapeutic, these fresh and seasonal blooms smelt divine and made gorgeous take-away gifts for all of the girls here at Sassy! Opt to take part in a workshop, a laid-back class (we’ve previously loved the ‘BYOB’ vibe at Art Affair) or treat yourself and your ladies to a full on pampering session!

We definitely did not hold back when it came to the pampering. Friday night was in full swing and with a vino in one hand, we were more than ready to sit back and be treated to a makeover session by the amazing team with Sponge! Armed with glittery makeup pallets, the perfect shades of nude lippies and curling tongs, this mobile beauty station transformed us from drab to fab in the flick of a mascara wand.

The perfect addition to any Galentine’s do or girl’s night out, Sponge are available to make their way to any venue of your choosing, keeping the prosecco flowing and the good vibes going all night long. The ‘Weekender‘ hair and ‘The Go-getter‘ makeup looks has Sassy’s seal of approval – who doesn’t love a bold, red lip?
