Top 10 Alfresco Wedding Venues in Hong Kong

5 September, 2011

Our resident wedding expert, Sandra from Simply Peachy wedding blog, is back – and this week, she’s rounding up her top picks for the best alfresco wedding venues in HK (yes, they do exist!)…

When it comes to weddings in Hong Kong, people rarely think of an alfresco setting because their minds go straight to the usual large-scale ballroom wedding at a five-star hotel. I don’t blame you – Hong Kong does not exactly boast a generous selection of boutique wedding venues, let alone alfresco ones!

However, contrary to popular belief, there are actually quite a few gorgeous wedding venues in Hong Kong that boast an intimate yet functional alfresco space whilst offering the same five-star catering you would expect to receive elsewhere. So before you opt for a destination wedding thinking there are no other options, check out my top ten alfresco wedding venues in Hong Kong.

Gold Coast Hotel
If you’re looking for a secluded and private alfresco location with a breathtaking view, check out the Gold Coast Hotel. Whilst it’s a bit of a trek from the city, there is an 83,000 square foot garden available for a gorgeous outdoor ceremony with three lawns to choose from, and a marquee that caters to a maximum capacity of 700 guests. This kind of location is such a rarity in Hong Kong that it’s definitely worth the travel… and it’s still closer than Bali!

Gold Coast Hotel, 1 Castle Peak Road, Gold Coast, Tuen Mun, Hong Kong, 2452 8888

Harbour Plaza Metropolis
Located in Hung Hom, the Harbour Plaza Metropolis offers a wonderful alfresco setting with panoramic views of Victoria Harbour. It has a private garden balcony as well as a grand European style marquee, which can accommodate up to 300 guests – perfect for those larger weddings.

Nestled in the bay of Three Fathoms Cove in Sai Kung, One-Thirtyone is ideal for an intimate alfresco affair. Their restaurant serves delicious modern European cuisine (it also made it onto our list of best alfresco restaurants in HK!) and is perfectly located in a three-storey Mediterranean style house. Evoking a feeling similar to that of a luxury European country retreat, the restaurant opens out onto lush green lawns overlooking the clear Sai Kung waters. Only 30 minutes outside of the city, One-Thirtyone is definitely a hidden gem!

One-Thirtyone, 131 Tseung Tau Village, Shap Sze Heung, New Territories, Hong Kong, 2791 2684

Ooh La La!
If you’ve shelved the beach wedding idea thinking that it’s not possible, think again! Ooh La La on Lantau Island is the perfect venue for a Hong Kong beach wedding – have your guests arrive via junks and celebrate with them over cocktails, a beach banquet and live entertainment. Sounds like a fun wedding that your guests will be talking about for years to come!

Ooh La La, Pui O Beach, Lantau Island, Hong Kong, 2984 8710

Fancy an Italian food experience for your wedding? If so, Spasso might be the choice for you. Its new home over in the Empire Centre encompasses over 6,000 square feet of ground floor harbour front space, with over 200 seats in the restaurant, at the bar, and on the terrace. There’s also an open kitchen, alfresco options, wide views of Victoria Harbour, and show-stopping cuisine by Michele Senigaglia.

Spasso, G5-8, 12-17 Empire Centre, 66 Mody Road, Tsim Sha Tsui East, Hong Kong, 2730 8027

The Pawn
Formerly a pawnshop, now restored and converted into The Pawn (one of the The Press Room Group’s restaurants), this historic building located in the middle of Wan Chai is a trendy yet romantic option for an intimate wedding. You can hold your wedding ceremony outdoors on their rooftop terrace (it holds up to 80 guests for a sit-down reception and 150 guests for a cocktail reception), or you can opt for a banquet in the private dining area on the second floor.

The Pawn, 62 Johnston Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong, 2866 3444

The Peak Lookout
With a panoramic view of Aberdeen, the outdoor garden terrace at The Peak Lookout is a gorgeous setting for a wedding celebration. Situated above the city and with a lovely romantic ambience, The Peak Lookout is a favourite date place for couples… and could also be the perfect wedding venue! Holding up to a maximum of 200 guests, the outdoor terrace can cater to your wedding no matter how big or small your party is.

The Peak Lookout, 121 Peak Road, The Peak, Hong Kong,2532 6274

The Verandah
The Front Lawn or The Garden at The Verandah in Repulse Bay offers one of the most luxurious sea views in Hong Kong and will have your guests head over heels in love with everything (Sassy’s already in love – see our previous review of The Verandah here!). Its dark wood and marble based décor exudes a classic colonial elegance that you won’t find anywhere else in Hong Kong, whilst The Lawn can hold up to 400 guests – perfect for even the largest of Chinese weddings.

Top Deck
Located on top of the famous Jumbo floating restaurant in Aberdeen, this 9000 square foot alfresco dining deck is perfect for a wedding reception for up to 280 guests and 700 guests for cocktails. Known for serving delicious Asian-inspired yet modern seafood cuisine, Top Deck will allow you to have a Chinese reception dinner without having to settle for the typical hotel banquet setting.

Upper House
Imagine walking up a set of candlelit stairs to arrive at a perfectly groomed garden furnished with elegant ivory shades. Liking the sound of that? Then the alfresco lawn at the Upper House is the perfect space for your wedding. With a maximum capacity of 80 people, Upper House is an ideal venue for an intimate wedding of close family and friends. (Check out our review of Upper House here!).
