What Shades to Wear Now
When the haze lifts and the sun decides to shine in Hong Kong, you’re going to need a killer pair of shades at the ready. An easy way to tap into current trends, and a quick way to add a chic edge to any outfit, sunglasses can give you some serious style points. Although designer shades don’t exactly come cheap, a good pair of sunnies can last for years to come (as long as you don’t lose them at sea!). Keep up to date with what’s hot by checking out a couple of our favourite designer styles (and some affordable dupes) and you’ll be sure to be bang on trend for when the sun comes out! Because just one pair of sunglasses will never be enough…
For years Ray-Ban has been a major player in the world of sunglasses and is known globally for its classic Wayfarers and iconic Aviator shades. So, when we saw this season’s fresh hexagonal design, we knew they were going to be a must-buy for 2017! The specs – which are just a slight departure from their classic round design (the hottest shades of summer 2016!) – are the perfect pair for an edgy, cool-girl look. Sure to be all over Instagram in no time, grab these now and get ahead of the game, girls!
The Boho trend always comes back for spring/summer, (think feminine floral prints to peasant blouses), but in 2017 it’s moving up a notch and taking over eyewear too! Pale pink hues have also been big in recent seasons, so we were super excited to see these two major trends collide, with designers such as Chloe, Tom Ford and Acne bringing their designs to the table. For an affordable high street option, H&M, Forever 21 and ASOS have great options for you to tap into this trend, if you don’t want to splash out and pay high-end prices.
Round and Oversized
Another throwback trend taking on a fresh face this year is round-shaped shades. Embrace the ‘60s and ‘70s, but go over-sized and ‘in your face’ for a modern take on the classic. Ideal for festivals (and for covering up the morning after!), Valley and Gucci have the perfect pairs to tackle this trend, or head to H&M for a an affordable dupe!
90’s Cat Eye
Cat eyes are nothing new, but whilst in recent years the focus has been on the oversized, in 2017 we’re going old school and hitting up the ‘90s for some inspiration. Fashion bloggers have been seen everywhere in this new retro style (check out Lucy Williams’ gorgeous Gucci pair), so there’s no doubt this trend will be sticking around. Think slim and simple, with just a slight cat eye. Try it yourself and get some serious fashion points, with this pair from Forever 21.
If being subtle is not your thing, you’re going to love these embellished sunnies. With crystals, rhinestones, beads and gems, 2017 hottest sunglasses aren’t for wallflowers! Gucci is all over this, with a selection of crystal-embellished options, or we just love Freda Banana’s over-the-top and colourful styles. For a more neutral, yet still chic and feminine approach, Jimmy Choo and Alice + Olivia have all the boxes ticked.
From laptop and phone cases, to table tops and lamps, the marble trend is everywhere. And as it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon, why not add a marble to your wardrobe with some stylish shades? Find them everywhere at affordable prices, from shops such as ASOS and Forever 21, or go high end with these beauties from Linda Farrow.
The mirrored lens trend is here for another season, from cat eye to aviator and everything in between! Sure to up the sass factor of your outfit, check out these amazing Stella McCartney shades, or wow in Saint Laurent’s rainbow take on the trend. For similar high-impact styles, for a fraction of the cost, Quay Australia are a must, or Forever 21’s mirrored aviators are sure to see you through junk season!
