5 Sunglasses Styles to up your Shade Game this Summer

First made famous by Lennon in the 60s, round sunglasses have come back with a vengeance to become one of the most popular eyewear shapes of 2016. Round glasses are also a really easy-wear style as they compliment most face types. They’re also extremely versatile and can be tailored to suit many different styles and trends. If you prefer the vintage look, they can be found in the classic Lennon style or go for a thicker tortoiseshell frame (a personal favourite of mine!). For the more high-fashion conscious among us, they can also be jazzed up with a colourful mirrored lens or crossbar.

High fashion trends will come and go but the Aviator has maintained its’ place as a timeless, classic style for decades. Again, it’s difficult to go wrong with a pair of these as they’re suited to all face shapes (yay!). Aviators are also designed to provide the eyes with the most protection from the sun with their signature drop lens, which makes them the go-to style for those sunny summer hikes and junk days. Tip: stay bang on trend and combine the classic Aviator style with a blue mirrored lens. Stylish AND practical, what more can you ask for?!

Cat Eye

Calling all vintage lovers (myself included), we have died and gone to retro eyewear heaven… the cat eye is back! Channel your inner Audrey Hepburn and add a dash of 1950s glam to your summer ensemble with a pair of these beauties. Cat eyes are most flattering on those of us with heart or round shaped faces, but again this style is extremely versatile. If the vintage look isn’t quite your thing, this season has seen designers combining the round and cat eye styles to create an uber stylish mash-up of two classic trends. Grab a pair of these in yellow to keep your sunglasses game on point!

Now to the old faithful, the wayfarer, has it ever let us down?! Ray Ban first introduced the design in the 1950s, revolutionising fashionable eyewear and gifting us all with a universally wearable style. Wayfarers have adapted in recent years to remain in keeping with high fashion trends and have moved from the classic plastic frames to include those made from bamboo and mahogany. Fortunately for us, there appears to be a wayfarer for everyone, and my seven-year-old pair are still every bit as stylish as the day I bought them!

Oversized sunnies have been reigning supreme among designers this season, and it’s not hard to see why! T’s probably the most versatile of all the trends due to the fact that any of the above styles can be supersized. Channel your vintage Jackie O with the classic black and white, or opt for the futuristic look with an oversized geometric frame. Unfortunately for me, oversized shades are not best suited to those of us with oval-shaped faces (boo), but are flattering on most other face shapes. Perfect for concealing those ‘stayed out ‘til 5am in LKF’ eyes, a pair of oversized shades are chic and oh-so useful.

Remember: an ill-fitting pair of sunnies can result in sun damage to the eyes so it’s super important that you chose the right size… style and practicality are an absolute match made in heaven. Happy hunting!
