New in Beauty: Nail Trends for Summer

Block Colour Pop

Although my wardrobe tends to focus heavily on blacks, whites, greys (and the occasional millennial pink), I’m 100% on board with the colour block nail trend for SS’17. Be it a primary blue, a bold orange, or a bright purple, I love the colouring box look and the pop of colour this trend brings! Perfect for brightening up any colourphobe’s outfit.

Try Essie, in California Coral, for a bold burst of colour, or Chanel, in Espadrilles, for the most vivid orange. If you’re feeling the blue vibes this season, go for Nars, in Ikiru, for a shade that’s cool and bright.

Au Natural

It’s summer and we want everything to be easy, breezy. Our whole make-up look tends to tone down when the weather heats up, so it’s no wonder that this relaxed approach is filtering down to our nails too! Think neatly trimmed nails in barely-there shades, such as the palest pinks and soft greys, or go one step further with just a slick of top coat for an easy, chic and polished result.

One of Chanel’s highly anticipated new shades for the year was Blanc White, a soft sheer and pearly hue, which is the perfect neutral to achieve this look.

Metallic Rule

In everything from sandals to swimwear, metallic shades are huge this season. Go for shades of bronze, gold or a chrome effect silver on your nails for some serious style points. Nars’ Amarapura is the perfect striking silver for this, or, try mixing two colours to create an ombre effect, for an even more daring take on the trend.

To achieve this look, paint the tips of your nails with a block colour (I personally love it with a blood red or bright pink as the base!) and then paint over your entire nail with a metallic shade. Essie, Good as Gold is amazing for achieving this cool look.

Pretty Pastels

Pastels for spring may not be ground-breaking, but we love them anyway. Even if you’re not a pink kinda girl, pale hues of all shades are most definitely in. Try a light lilac or even a pale blue, or opt for a pastel orange to feel instantly summer ready.

I’m a sucker for orange so I adore this peachy pastel from OPI, which ties in with this trend perfectly. Go a little more aqua with this minty blue from Essie, or tone it right down with this pale grey/lavender from Nails Inc.

OPI, Is Mai Tai Crooked? available from Cher 2, Room 725, Hollywood Plaza, 610 Nathan Road, Mong Kok & Cher 2, 1E, 1/F, Po Foo Building, 84-94 Percival Street, Causeway Bay, or online

Every Nail for Herself

This season, it’s all about giving each of your nails its own identity. Whether it’s going for one block colour on each nail in varying shades, or trying your hand at stripy nail art, or reverse manicures with accents of different hues.

Try combining trends and go for varying pastel shades on each nail for a chic take on this look. Or opt for some fun nail art, by using a different primary colour on the tips of each of your nails, for a modern twist on the French Manicure.

White Out

Okay, it may remind us a little of covering our nails in Tip-Ex when we were at school, but white nails are huge this summer (and look great with a tan!). Go for White Out from Nails Inc. for a long-lasting and high-shine result.
