RSVP to Shop the Shoot and treat yourself to 20% off décor and 15% off Christmas wreaths!
Christmas has crept up on us (faster than we would like!) and in between mad dashes to buy presents and ensuring that the fridge is full of Prosecco (#necessities), we have festive feasts to plan and frozen pigs in blankets to purchase. Some would say that décor is the least of our worries, but we would have to disagree!
Setting the perfect table is definitely one of the more fun elements of Christmas – it beats basting the turkey anyway! And if you’re in the middle of planning Crimbo lunch, then you’ve stumbled upon this post in good time. We’ve sought help from the professionals and asked the brains behind BYDEAU and iDecorate to help us put together three gorgeous looks that are far from laying out your standard red, green and gold table cloth. Shall we?

Centerpieces
There is no hard and fast rule to say that the centre of your table is reserved for plates full of mince pies and decanters of wine (although we wouldn’t complain!). Add height and texture to your table using fresh, seasonal foliage, candle sticks and a little elbow grease. On a budget? Try your hand at making your own funky, ombre Christmas trees using a can of spray paint and a sprinkling of creativity. Check out your local craft store, or head over to Sham Shui Po for a wander. You may pick up some surprising seasonal goodies.

Gone are the days where everything is expected to be matching – where’s the fun in that? Stack a quirky salad plate on top of a more subdued dining set and top with a cute, personalised tag. You could use coloured baubles, Christmas decorations or sprigs of festive firs as place markers which double as little extras for guests to take home.

If your Christmases tend to be quite traditional (read: festive-patterned napkins and mum’s old china), then playing with traditional elements and giving them a modern makeover is an easy way to update your dinner ‘do. Gold, green, red, pink… wait, pink? Throwing in an unexpected colour brings the table setting to life and ensures that the more subtle colours pop.

Gold Champagne Flutes ($990)
Centerpieces
Roses have been associated with anniversaries and declarations of love since forever, so would you have thought that something as simple as strewing white roses throughout your centrepiece could bring such a Christmassy vibe to the table? We didn’t either! But, we love it.

Antique Pearl Ornament ($75), Diamond Ornament ($62), Multi-Colour Stoneware Votive ($180), Pink Onyx Candle ($995)
Centerpieces
Gone overboard on Christmas tree decorations (guilty!)? Nestle any spares in amongst your centrepiece, using different shapes, colours and sizes throughout. Add height using candle sticks and pair with a Glass Candle Stick Holder to mimic baubles; as the rest of the centrepiece is quite low rise, these will look really cool when lit above all the different colours and textures.

We’ve said it before – have fun mix and matching colours and different metals, as you can’t really go wrong at this time of year! We can only assume that there will be several courses throughout the feast (it is Christmas after all!), so stacking plates not only saves on space, but using different patterns brings the setting to life.

Glass Candle Stick Holder ($239), Lilac Stoneware Votive ($109), Gatsby Salad Plate ($250), Gold Wire Delight Ornament ($78)
Colour Schemes
While these three different looks use similar accents throughout, it’s quite impressive that you can switch up the entire look of a table setting just by changing the blooms that you use. We love the hues of pinks, purples and reds, as they really contrast in texture and draw the eye to your centrepiece. You don’t have to limit yourself to using a bouquets, BYDEAU actually encourage us to customise our arrangements and play around with seasonal and unusual flowers and foliage like velvety Dusty Miller plants.
