Are you a fellow cafe hopper in search of quality coffee with the additions of strong wifi, tasty bites and Instagrammable decor? We’ve got it all!

Hong Kong’s cafe scene has been booming in recent years (no, not just with Pacific Coffee and Starbucks!) and it sure has got us making a list of must-try coffee shops, but it can be hard to keep up with new ones popping up every month. We’ve compiled some classic Hong Kong cafes that need to be on your radar, each one offering something unique whilst uniting the caffeinated souls. From hotspots like Sheung Wan and Causeway Bay to up-and-coming hipster neighbourhoods like Prince Edward and Sham Shui Po, as well as laid-back cafes on outlying islands, here’s the only list of best cafes in Hong Kong you need!

Loop Kulture – Cafe in Sham Shui Po that also houses eco products along with top-notch coffee

You know you’re hip when you’re aware that Sham Shui Po is the neighbourhood for cosy cafes! We recommend Loop Kulture for catch-ups with friends over quality coffee as well as spending some solo time whilst hunting down treasure troves in the vicinity known for vintage finds. And don’t forget to shop zero-waste products (from mostly local brands) after you’re done sipping your cup of Joe.

This cafe is great for: Catch-up with friends – it can get quite noisy making it distracting to work from.

Loop Kulture, G/F, 90 Apliu Street, Sham Shui Po, Kowloon, Hong Kong, 2702 1713, www.instagram.com/loop.kulture

NODI – Our go-to breakfast spot with unbeatable coffee

Need coffee to truly wake up in the morning? NODI is our pit stop every week before heading in to work and we can’t help but sample a new breakfast dish every time we’re here. We’re so sold that we even got membership and once redeemed a free cuppa coffee…just saying!

This cafe is great for: A quick grab of breakfast/lunch

Bacha Coffee – Cafe to go for good quality coffee and pastry as well as roasted coffee beans to take home

Chances are you stumbled upon this Moroccan-inspired coffee joint when travelling to the Lion City – it’s garnered quite a following since it set foot in Hong Kong as well. Ideal for grab-and-go coffee and croissants in Central, we’ve also sampled its coffee beans and we felt like quite the baristas at home thanks to the quality beans!

This cafe is great for: Takeaway coffee and shopping for coffee beans and accessories

NOC Coffee Co. – Cafe with great wifi and coffee beans

For one, we’re biased fans of its mocha (the perfect balance of coffee and chocolate!) and we can’t get enough of its minimal decor which we find helps focus when working. With strong wifi and delish pastries and bites to boot, there’s no surprise to why NOC is a cult favourite!

This cafe is great for: Remote working, studying, coffee catch-ups and solo dates with a book!

The Hideout – Laid-back village-style cafe to unwind and relax

If you’re going to go out of your way for your caffeine fix, The Hideout is worth the mini trek! Nestled inside a Mui Wo village, The Hideout is a unique Hong Kong cafe that also hosts regular wellness events like art jamming, yoga and more.

Maya – Hong Kong’s first artisanal vegan cafe

This chic bakery and bar’s ethos is just as chirpy as its staff! We’ve dropped by multiple times and can vouch for its vegan pastries, hearty smoothie bowls and a quick grab-and-go wrap. Leave some space for the peanut butter cookie which has impressed everyone that’s had a bite!

This cafe is great for: Slow mornings, quality coffee matched with a variety of food options and cocktails in a relaxed setting

Maya, Shop 4, Ground Floor, PCCW Tower, Taikoo Place, 979 King’s Road, Quarry Bay, Hong Kong, 9166 1290, www.mayabakerybar.com

Fonji Cafe – Hidden retro themed cafe in Prince Edward

This cosy cafe is tucked between Prince Edward and Sham Shui Po and remains a lesser-known gem. We get the sense that we’re at grandma’s thanks to the retro decor and indulgent chiffon cakes that taste homemade. Dress the part and snap your shots for the ‘Gram!

This cafe is great for: Catching up with friends, Instagrammable shots and exploring the neighbourhood

Fonji Cafe, G/F, Nam Fung Mansion, 5 Maple Street, Prince Edward, Kowloon, Hong Kong, www.instagram.com/fonji.cafe

Gwee Coffee & More – Cosy cafe in Tai Ping Shan

Chances are you’ve passed by this cafe with the peculiar circle windows but haven’t stepped in for a cup of Joe. Offering adorable seasonal drinks (think spooky ghosts for Halloween, Christmas tree coffees and bunny bums for Easter!), cold brews, pastries and savouries for breakfast or lunch, Gwee Coffee never disappoints.

This cafe is great for: Instagram shots, exploring the neighbourhood and socialising

Coast Coffee – Cosy Causeway Bay cafe

Warm and inviting, Coast Coffee takes you away from the hustle and bustle of Causeway Bay. The presentation always steals the show, from intricate latte art to the fluffiest pancakes and fresh fruit smoothies. We definitely recommend sampling its signature caramel double cheese cake with caramelised apple, it’s as heavenly as it sounds!

This cafe is great for: Unwinding and plenty of food and drinks options (especially those looking for more non-coffee choices)

Artistry Brewing Company – Get your caffeine and alcohol fix at this North Point cafe!

Decked out with fresh flowers and lush plants, as well as plush armchairs and wooden cabinets, Artistry Brewing Company feels like a home away from home – that we’ll happily work from too! Aside from a range of coffee and tea, expect to also find craft beers, wines and classic cocktails on the menu. This is also one of the rare cafes open past 6pm (closes at 10pm!) making it much easier to catch-up with friends post-work.

This cafe is great for: Breakfast, lunch or dinner, bringing pets along for coffee and of course, the ‘Gram!

agnès b. CAFÉ – Spacious cafe with multiple locations in Hong Kong

One of the most popular florists in the city, agnès b. also dishes out delectable cakes, tarts and coffee (with bottled options for you to carry around and sip all day). If you’re looking for less crammed coffee shops, the Tsim Sha Tsui and Tai Koo locations provide ample seating for larger groups to gather comfortably.
