Forget the rain, there’s a lot of sizzle in the air this week, courtesy of Rihanna, Madame Rouge and Bridgerton!
It’s this week’s roundup of what everyone is talking about, and it’s looking pretty spicy out there (rain notwithstanding)! While we’ve been searching for and hanging out at the best cafes, bars, and restaurants in Hong Kong, we’ve also kept our ears open for the news and gossip circulating in the city. It’s not really eavesdropping when people are talking loudly, after all. Here are our picks for the week!

Fenty Beauty x Shanghai Street Food Collab We Didn’t Know We Needed
In a bold act on behalf of all overdressers everywhere, Rihanna showed up in Shanghai for the Fenty Beauty Alley pop up to make jianbing (pancake crepes usually sold on the street) wearing a Mugler trench coat and what looks like leather elbow gloves. Since Rihanna is already known as the Queen of Shandong to her Chinese fans, and Shandong is known for jianbing, Chinese social media basically burst into flames. We can’t get enough of how surprisingly good Rihanna’s jianbing technique is and the glitter-encrusted Fenty Beauty jianbing cart — will someone please do this in Hong Kong? Also, we spy “your fav Chinese bitch” Marcelo Wang teaching Rihanna how to say “Yaas Queen” in Mandarin!

Madame Rouge Brings Bangkok Burlesque Bombshells To Hong Kong
Something else that’s adding to the heat is burlesque show Madame Rouge coming to Hong Kong from Bangkok, courtesy of FOXGLOVE. The show has been making eyes pop with the burlesque dancers’ performances since 2019, and we hear that each ticket includes three hours of free-flow spirits and Veuve Clicquot champagne! We do love a glamourous burlesque look (in fact, just like Rihanna’s 2014 Swarovski-encrusted Adam Selman gown), and we can’t wait to see all the feathers, crystals and costumes. It’s on for only two nights: 31 May and 1 June, 2024, and you can book your tickets here.
Bridgerton Leaves Viewers Thirsting for More
In more spicy news, Bridgerton Season Three, part one dropped on Netflix last week, and after bingeing on it and screaming “For god’s sake, Penelope!” at the cliffhanger ending, it looks like everyone has moved on to lusting after all the Regency costumes. Personally, we choose the mint-green one that Penelope wore on Rotten Row. The leaves and green flowers on her right shoulder — swoon! Yes, yes, the Bridgerton dresses are not historically accurate, they don’t have to be; as costume designer Ellen Mirojnick said in 2020, “And we wanted so much for it to be beautiful, aspirational and absolutely appealing to a modern audience.” Head over here to see some Bridgerton-inspired frocks.

Viral “Man in Finance” Lyrics Get A Thirsty Update
We thought that the viral “Man in Finance” song was coming close to the end of its lifespan (it’s been three weeks now and it’s been either this or “Not Like Us” on social media), but TikTok creator Megan Boni has just added more fuel to the fire with new lyrics. The original song goes: “I’m looking for a man in finance / trust fund / 6’5″ / blue eyes,” sparking a race on social media to show off spouses, boyfriends, siblings or colleagues with those attributes. Two days ago, Megan added more lines: “Guys, I’m still f***ing looking for my man. Will you help me find my man?” Oh dear, good luck, Megan! This begs the question: what are Hong Kongers looking for in a man? Do tell us what you think!
Do Truly Happy Sexless Couples Exist?
We asked and you answered: in a recent Sassy poll we did on Instagram, we asked you whether it’s worth staying in a sexless relationship, and a huge 81% of you said “No”. We’re super curious about the 19% of you that said “Yes”. We’ve got a friend in a dead bedroom relationship (initiated by her husband) and she says she’s content with the situation because it’s less pressure. But in that viral article describing happy couples in sexless marriages, it really doesn’t seem like some of the spouses in the article are that happy though, or is it just us?
