10 Little Life Changes to Make this Year

1 / 10

Get (somewhat) Organised

Start small. Pry yourself off of the couch and whip up a quick lunch to take with you to work the next day, (leftovers will do just fine!).  And whilst you’re on a roll, why not lay out tomorrow’s outfit? Knowing that you’ll have an extra 15 minutes to snooze in the morning will be totally worth the extra effort.

Make your Bed

We have a tendency to mosey around in the mornings only to realise that we’re ten minutes late for work before we’ve even started on the mascara. But if you can find all of 30 seconds to fluff your pillows and shake out your sheets before leaving the house, it’ll be all the more satisfying crawling back into them after a stressful day at work.

As for changing them? Keep it weekly, girls – we know that launderettes can be somewhat of a pain here in Honkers, but starting off the week with fresh sheets is a treat that should be enjoyed on the regular!

Try Something New

Don’t feel like you need to get up and climb a mountain (maybe, we’ll start with a hike) or suddenly develop a love for crocheting – we’re talking about the little things. Addicted to cappuccinos? Switch up your Starbucks order and opt for a herbal tea. Always donning a red shade of lipstick? Try pink! Whatever it may be, you might find that you surprise yourself along the way…

Do Nothing

And on the flipside, it’s absolutely fine to do nothing at all. Fancy a day at home in your pyjamas? Stop feeling guilty! Living in a whirlwind city like Hong Kong it’s easy to feel pressured into filling up your diary and attending every social soirée. Grab yourself a snack, pop on a cheesy film and snuggle in for the day – you’ll thank yourself later.

Put the Phone Down

It’s time to take a social media hiatus! We’re glued to our phones every minute of the day, so why do we feel the need to head home and keep on scrolling? We’re so dependant on keeping up to date, that we often forget to live in the moment. Give your eyes (and your thumbsa break and make a conscious effort to stop checking your phone before bed and first thing when you wake up. Instagram isn’t going anywhere, girls!

Start a Skincare Routine

Our parents have always told us that if you take care of your skin when you’re young, you’ll 100% thank yourself for it later on in life. So if you’re nightly beauty routine is somewhat non-existent, why not start small and ensure that you always thoroughly remove your make-up, cleanse and moisturise your skin at the end of each day. After the craziness of the festive season your skin may well be crying out for it and if you can use some cruelty free products, you’ll feel even better about it in the long run!

Take Time to Exercise Each Morning

We know, we know. The cliché January mantra of eating better and exercising more is hard to escape at this time of the year, but we’re not talking hardcore exercise here (unless that’s your thing!). Taking just a small amount of time each morning will do wonders and help to clear your head before gearing up for work. Start small with some simple stretches or yoga, or get out and go for a short run or a brisk walk!

Do Your Bit For The Environment

If one of your New Year’s resolutions is to drink more water, but you dread the thought of constantly buying fresh bottles and throwing away all that plastic, why not invest in in a handy keep cup?

Keep it at your desk or in your handbag and it will always be there when you need it – helping you to achieve your goal and do your little bit for the planet. Additionally, rather than always paying for a plastic bag for your shopping, this New Year treat yourself to a cute tote bag or a handy ‘bag for life’ to keep in your handbag and you’ll never have to pay that 50 cents again!

Stop Saying Sorry

Many of us are guilty of apologising for things that aren’t our fault or for using “sorry” to convey feelings of gratitude and to show politeness. So this year, why not switch out this negative with a positive? When you next go to apologise for being late, instead thank the person for their patience. Their reaction might just surprise you!

Take Time for Yourself

With hectic work schedules and jam-packed social calendars, it is so important to take a little time for yourself each day to refresh. As little as 15-30 minutes a day is all it takes. Whether you want to read a chapter of that book you’ve been trying to finish for months, try out a new face mask or just to sit back and enjoy a cup of tea, you’ll be surprised by how much better you feel and by doing this regularly, it is likely to reduce your stress levels and help to avoid irritability in future.
