Sunshiney Saturday Style

25 August, 2011

This time of year makes me want to open my wardrobe and pile on every bright piece of colorful clothing that I have been too shy to wear all year! I use the sunshine as an excuse to wear the brightest prints, the loudest patterns, and yes, the highest heels. It’s a little like a Superman complex… the sun gives me my strength. And what does one wear when it is supremely gorgeous out? Well, here’s a hint… not black.

Here is a great choice for an outfit that can take you from Saturday brunch at Betty’s Kitschen, to your country club of choice, then on to Soho for dinner and a little bar hopping on Wyndham afterwards. That is, if you can handle the heels! The cream color of the romper is the perfect backdrop for some bright accessories.Β  It is also a terrific way to show off those toned tanned stems that you have been so diligently working on at Pure. The sleeves are a very flattering length for all arms and fitness levels.

Next up is my ideal beach-to-bar ensemble that will have you soaking up the sun and then soaking in the cocktails. The basic olive tank again provides the backdrop for the eclectic tribal print skirt. Try envisioning olive as an alternative to black and see how it works in your wardrobe. Another simple tip is to balance out fitted pieces with fuller pieces. The body hugging top will show off your shape while the fuller skirt can hide any hippy issues that one may possess. Wearing the skirt at your natural waist or right at your belly button will show off a smaller waist and elongate the legs. I have paired the skirt with a huge bright tote for the day to lug around all those beach essentials accompanied by a massive hat to block out the harmful rays. When the sun goes down, be a quick change artist! Ditch the shades and wet swimmies and slip into the wooden wedges.Β  Grab your clutch on the way out and enjoy your evening!

Last up for my weekend wardrobe wonders is a bold blue maxi skirt. We try a bit of color blocking here which can be surprisingly flattering on all body types. If leaving the shirt untucked, I would add a skinny belt to nip in the waist and show off the shape. Otherwise, the long skirt and flowy top can become like one large sheet of color hiding your silhouette underneath. The oversize clutch will hold all you need for an afternoon gabbing with the girlfriends or gallery-gazing with your love. I am a sucker for a good headscarf and a horsey print HermΓ¨s… Yes please!
