March isn’t just the Rugby 7’s, undoubtedly our favourite (or most hated) weekend of the year, it’s also about International Women’s Day, a cause that’s super important to all of us at Sassy HQ. There’s no better organisation to spotlight than The Women’s Foundation.
What is The Women’s Foundation?
The Women’s Foundation is based in Hong Kong, and they promote the equality of women and men around town. They run community programmes that are wide-ranging, far-reaching and informative.
What are the main aims and goals of the organisation?
TWF aims to improve the lives of women and girls in Hong Kong by promoting the full and equal participation of women and girls, men and boys in all aspects of Hong Kong society.
What is International Women’s Day?
This year, International Women’s Day is on Sunday, 8 March. It’s a day to celebrate the achievements of women while calling for greater equality. This year’s theme is “Make It Happen”.
How can you support?
Quite simply, in many ways. In Hong Kong, there’s loads going on.
Beef & Liberty will donate 100% of the sales for their Cookies and Cream dessert to TWF throughout March. So head over and indulge your sweet tooth, ladies, for you will be doing it in the name of a good cause.
Chachawan, one of our favourite neighbourhood bars, will celebrate with a cocktail called The Beauty Myth. Again, if there ever was a time to indulge…! Duddell’s will also celebrate with a cocktail called Basic Instinct, which is available from today to Sunday, 8 March. All proceeds from both these drinks will go to TWF.
Shop ‘til you drop at MISCHA’s fundraising shopping night on Wednesday, 11 March. 10% of the proceeds from sales that evening will go to the organisation. Throughout March, MISCHA will also donate 5% of the sales at its PMQ pop-up store to TWF. We simply adore the brand’s prints, especially the fun colours in their latest collection.
Grab a Girl’s Best Friend smoothie from Pure’s nood food and $15 will be donated to TWF. Or treat yourself to some new gym gear from Pure, and 10% of the money from there will also go to the charity. Need to feel active? Join Pure Yoga’s fundraising yoga class at their Asia Standard Tower branch at 10am on Sunday, 8 March.
The most efficient way to get around town is to hire an Uber, of course, so for every ride ordered from today to Sunday, 8 March, the company will support TWF by donating $1. And how could we forget about The Whisky Library’s fundraising efforts? 5% of sales proceeds from a selection of limited edition whiskeys will be contributed to TWF. Or if you’ve got an affinity for malt, pop over to the store’s whisky tasting event on Thursday, 19 March, with 45% of the ticket sales going to support the organisation.
Phew! That’s loads of promotions and ways that you can support TWF. Let’s hear it for the girls…
