Robert Taylor – Why You Should Try An Independent Hair Stylist in Hong Kong

11 January, 2016

We try out Robert Taylor’s private hairdressing services

We can put up with paying $48 for a mani that may chip in 10 minutes, and a facial that doesn’t quite give your skin that extra glow. But one beauty blunder that we simply can’t hack is a hairdressing disaster. Unless you’re really into hats that cover your whole head, you can’t really hide a bad hair-cut or hideous highlights. We all know that beauty is about what’s on the inside, but we’ve got to admit that every time we have our hair done, we leave the salon feeling even more confident and ready to take on the world.

However, finding a hairdresser that you can trust can be a bit of a challenge in the 852. Have you ever booked in to a really pricey salon and felt intimidated by the big bright lights, the ‘snipping’ sound of scissors, the rush of staff dashing around for styling products, and the overly mirrored walls? Well, we have. So that’s why we were intrigued to try out independent hair stylist, Robert Taylor.

Robert has been taming tresses in Discovery Bay for a number of years now, and has built up a loyal client list. He works at the beautiful MOW Grooming & Skin Care salon, but independently. What does this mean? It means he works for himself and does everything from the consultation to the hair wash, to the colouring, to the cutting, to the blow dry. This means you won’t be carted off to various different people during your visit – it’s a one-on-one, more personal hairdressing service where you have the stylist’s full attention.

After success in DB, Robert is now available at Red Cat Salon in Sai Ying Pun, conveniently located on High Street above the flower shop and across the road from Craft Beer and Co. Sassy Girls Lauren and Jess went to check out his styling skills on two occasions to see what an independent hair dressing experience was like:

Jessica-SHKJess:

I’m not one for changing up my hairstyle very often out of sheer anxiety that I will not like the new ‘do, but I do get bored of the same style day in and day out. Luckily, Robert Taylor was able to fix that problem with a few snips of the scissors! My hair is long to begin with and I wanted to keep it that way, but needed something to add a little extra oomph. Robert suggested a disconnected layer which would give my hair more movement and help to shape my face. After all was said and done, I couldn’t be happier with the finished product. My hair feels much lighter, is easier to style and really frames my face. Aside from the haircut, Robert was great and really added to the experience. I would totally recommend Robert Taylor to any fellow Sassy Girls!

Lauren-SHKLauren:

I don’t usually give too much care to my hair and I’ve gone from super long locks to a short choppy cut without hesitation in the past. That being said, I was keen to keep the length and decided, with help from Robert, that just an inch or so needed taking off to remove any split ends. I did want a bit of a change for winter, so Robert advised me to get rid of my left over light brown highlights and go for a full head of Wella’s Colour Touch semi-permanent black dye, which is ammonia-free. I was so pleased with the end result. It made my hair feel and look much healthier, and the whole experience was just I wanted. I loved being the only person in the salon as it made the environment far more peaceful, and it was nice to have one person advising me on what to do and styling my hair. I honestly felt so relaxed throughout the whole experience, which was also due to Robert’s calm and pleasant manner. If you’re looking for a reliable, relaxing experience then I would definitely recommending booking in an appointment!
