If you’re ever craving quality Mexican food that doesn’t disappoint, Brickhouse is the place for you. With the updated summer menu, there are plenty of new options to choose from. Spoiler alert: everything we had was amazing.

The bustling, energetic and colourful Mexican vibe is the perfect backdrop for the equally exciting dishes served. We sat by the bar and had a front row seat to the dishes being made. We started off with the Hamachi Ceviche and Fresh Mozzarella. The Hamachi was super fresh and paired with green tomatoes, red onion and a zesty jalepeño vinaigrette with corn tortilla chips to scoop each bite up. This a great starter to share. The soft and chewy mozzarella came with fresh green salad and green tomatoes which helped cut the richness of the cheese. Both dishes were packed with bright and tangy flavours, we kept going back for more. (Read: we finished both starters in record time.)

We sampled four different tacos between us: with fun and playful names, we knew we were in for a good time. I had the Wagyu Lookin’ At and In Cod We Trust, whereas my gluten-free girlfriend had Piggie Smalls and Cluck You. The staff were able to accommodate my friend’s gluten-free diet, and didn’t even bat an eye when asked to change the tortilla to a corn one.

The highlight for me was the fish taco because I’m #basic. But there was nothing “basic” about the flavours – the guacamole taquero, mango and spicy aioli that accompanied the cod was finger lickin’ good. The tacos were served with the Home Beet Fries, and if you love beets, you’re going to love these. Deep fried battered cubes of sweet beets which comes with spicy aioli and a hint of spring onions and chilli flakes. The perfect variation to sweet potato fries. I would order this again (with a drink) as a snack any day of the week.

I washed everything down with the Picante Verde – a lovely mix of gin, cucumber, mint and jalepeño. I’m definitely eager to try the Sangre De Oaxaca (sherry, gin, mescal, strawberry, blood orange and bergamot) next time!

We ended the meal with the Mexican Toast which was fluffy, sweet and came with raspberry chilli jam and whipped cream – truly a decadent way to cap off the meal. If this is your dessert of choice, make sure to order it earlier in the evening. As a popular item, it only serves a limited number each night!

Brickhouse doesn’t take reservations, so make sure to go early to grab yourself a spot. If you’re feeling peckish after a night of partying, it’s open until 4am from Thursday to Saturday.
