Whether it’s a romantic dinner for two or a slightly bigger gathering of friends, take the hard work out of NYE by keeping things casual. Take your pick from one of the city’s many parks, beaches or picnic spots, bring your best throw and settle in for a night under the stars. Keep the food to nibbles – Marks & Spencer is always a favourite for picnic food – or get everyone coming to bring a small dish and a bottle of wine. Some catering companies in the city also offer special picnic food and drink packages, which are also a good option to make the night that bit more special.

Night Junk
Summer may be over, but there’s nothing stopping us from sailing the seas with plenty of booze and friends. If you can’t face LKF or the plethora of parties on offer (but still want to celebrate with a crowd), we suggest going for a night junk and soaking in the best of the city views and fireworks. You can tailor the junk to fit your budget, by opting for BYOB and food, or spend a little more and get everything done for you with various options for drinks and catering available. Hurry though, just like peak season during the summer months, the best boats get booked up fast!

Book a Staycation
Want to spend the night with just your other half or your best girlfriend? Book a staycation to celebrate with plenty of bubbles, movies, room service and bathrobes. And if you really want to treat yourself, why not book in for a spa treatment on New Year’s Day to start your January feeling relaxed and ready to take on the world.

Private Dinner Party
Good food, drinks and company – what could be better? But with tiny apartments getting in the way of the best-laid plans, why not book a private space for your very own NYE dinner party. With plenty of event spaces on offer, you can sit back and let the professionals do the hard work for you.

Party at Home
If you’re lucky enough to have a slighter larger apartment or an outdoor or rooftop space, show it off this New Year’s and invite your friends over for a countdown bash. Similar to the picnic option, keep things casual and stress-free by getting your guests to bring a dish and a bottle, or order in pizzas. Pop on Spotify, get some games ready and enjoy a relaxed night in. If your space is just too small to host, check out our list of party venues to rent for the night.

One Night in Macau
Fancy a staycation but thinking of heading slightly further afield? With Macau only an hour away, hop on the ferry and spend this New Year in Asia’s answer to Vegas. Make the most of your time by heading over earlier in the day to explore some of Macau’s vibrant neighbourhoods, before settling into your hotel and getting ready for the night ahead. It’s entirely up to you whether you choose to gamble the night away in the casinos, treat yourself to a lavish hotel buffet dinner, or just stay in and soak in the bath with a glass of champagne.

Make an Impact on the Homeless in Hong Kong
Support ImpactHK’s campaign to transform the lives of the homeless in Hong Kong. There are 250 homeless individuals who sleep in the West Kowloon McDonald’s alone. ImpactHK promises to ‘reach out through kindness’, seeking to make a difference through a sports programme which provides a positive physical benefit but also nurtures team spirit, friendship, and connection. It serves 400 individuals on the street each week – in Sham Shui Po, Mong Kok, Tai Kok Tsui, Yau Ma Tei, Happy Valley, Fortress Hill, North Point, and Sai Wan Ho. For every donation of $2,000 or more, ImpactHK will take you and a group of up to 10 friends on a Private Kindness Walk to experience the work it does. And for every donation of $6,000 or more, ImpactHK Founder Jeff Rotmeyer will take you and a group of up to 15 friends on a Private Kindness Walk (where you’ll not only experience the charity’s work first-hand, but you can also get involved in the cooking/food preparation before you set off). Whether it’s in the lead up to NYE or booked in for when 2019 hits, this is a truly meaningful way to begin the new year.
