COMO celebrates 25 years and opens its own beach club in Phuket + Win a COMO Shambala cook book

With a collection of beautiful hotels accumulated over the past 25 years, COMO group continues to be one of the leaders in luxury travel. Starting off in Asia, the company now boasts unique properties in locations such as Bhutan, the Maldives and Bali. Loved by celebrities, raved about for its divine COMO Shambala Spa and admire for its stellar service, I was intrigued to see what all the fuss was about.

We’ve already boasted about Point Yamu by COMO’s cliffside experience here, but with a newly opened beach club and the release of their own COMO Shambala cookbook, ‘The Pleasures of Eating’, I wanted to see if it still lived up to its reputation.

A Private Pool – The Ultimate Luxury

Set on the quieter, Eastern side of Phuket island, Point Yamu is the perfect place for utter relaxation. I had a good idea of what to expect, but when we arrived and were greeted by a palatial, almost Roman-like lobby entrance, I have to say I was surprised. The surprises didn’t end there though, as I soon discovered that we had been upgraded to a Bay Pool Suite. Our spacious, white and blue room also had a very special addition… pulling back the curtains from the windows revealed our own terrace and *drumroll please* our own private pool!

If you’re looking for the ultimate, luxurious hotel experience just a hop, skip and jump away from Hong Kong, look no further. These huge rooms have every amenity you could wish for (including a large bathtub, which is always a winner in my books) and the private infinity pool is the icing on the cake. This is the kind of place where you don’t even need to leave your hotel room – it’s a holiday in itself. Totally private with stunning views of the Andaman Sea, I couldn’t think of a better place for an indulgent weekend away.

If you don’t manage to get a room with its own pool, you won’t miss out. Each and every room is spacious with a fresh, contemporary design. What’s more, every room has a fabulous ocean view, no matter which ‘wing’ of the hotel you’re staying in. The general hotel pools also offer plenty of space and breathtaking views… think blues, on blues, on blues (hello Instagram!).

Beach Club

As if your own private pool isn’t luxurious enough, COMO by Point Yamu have recently opened their own private beach club on Naka Yai island. Simply let them know when you’d like to go (you can either go in the morning or afternoon) and you’ll be taken on a free shuttle bus down to the pier before boarding a free boat to a private island. Due to the tide at the that time of the year, the beach club was closed, but COMO arranged for us to visit Rang Yai private island instead for a similar experience. Soft white sand, deep blue water, fresh coconuts and authentic Thai food went down a treat – the perfect way to spend the day!

Speaking of food, not only does Point Yamu by COMO have two restaurants of its own, the Thai ‘Nahmyaa‘ and the Italian ‘La Sirena‘, but it also offers the COMO Shambala cuisine. Healthy, delicious and organic, the dishes on the COMO Shambala menu is just as tasty but specially designed to give your body maximum goodness. I loved the breakfast (the superfood egg white omelette was a favourite), especially washed down with a fresh coconut or wheatgrass shot.

The Spa

The ultimate getaway experience isn’t complete without a trip to the spa, and I can honestly say that the COMO Shambala massage was one of the most relaxing treatments I’ve ever had. Deep blue tiles cover the spa, giving it an almost Turkish baths vibe, and the treatment room is spacious with a gorgeous light fitting, two beds and sleek decor. We began our treatment with a foot wash in petal-filled bowls of warm water, before moving over to the beds. The signature COMO Shambala scent is invigorating yet soothing, a mix of eucalyptus, peppermint, lavender and geranium, complementing the perfectly pressured massage.

In such a compact, busy city such as Hong Kong, the ultimate luxury is privacy. Most people can’t look out the window without seeing into hundreds of other flats, so Point Yamu by COMO is the perfect luxury destination for Hong Kongers. Privacy and stunning views are a recipe for relaxation, and with a private beach, pool and delicious healthy dining options, what more could you really want?
