If there’s one thing we at Sassy appreciate, it’s a woman who has intelligence, style and sophistication all rolled into one. Which is why we’re so excited to hear about the incredibly talented editor and stylist, Grace Lam, launching her own makeover show. The first episode of “GRACE LAM STYLE” aired on Sunday, 14 May with special guest, hair stylist Mark Bustos (who famously gives free haircuts to the homeless), and it’s a laudable twist on the normal makeover. Rather than focusing on just making professional women look better, Lam has decided to help those who really need a boost to get ahead – teenage mums, the elderly, domestic helpers and those with disabilities.

“I am tired of the current social self-obsessed era,” says Lam. “I want to do the opposite and turn our attention toward helping others. I’d like to help those less fortunate to gain more confidence to achieve [their] life goals by showing them how to shop, and put outfits together. Perhaps they have a job interview, or a graduation ceremony, or even a special event to attend and have no idea what to wear or where to start.”

Along with her equally fabulous husband, fashion and beauty photographer/director husband, Jason Capobianco, Lam’s first episode works with a teen mum. Working with the NGO Caritas’ Green Baby, Lam teaches the mum how to break away from her usual go-to outfits, and expands her knowledge of fashion by showing examples of practical shopping.

Lam works with people of all ethnicities, focusing mainly on the underprivileged in Hong Kong.

“I hope to help people build self confidence and show them that revamping their image isn’t about how big your budget is – it’s about having the courage to create your own style. #SpreadLoveWithStyle is about how fashion can actually transform our lives in a meaningful way by helping us to elevate our minds and rediscover ourselves. My aim is to help people, that’s all.”

Well, we’re totally into that goal, too, Grace, so #yougogirl!

The web series can be viewed on Youtube, Instagram, Weibo.  The web series will consist of eight episodes, each featuring a different organisation or different demographic groups from Hong Kong society.
