Pilates Place – fix, flex & firm with private sessions in Central

28 August, 2012

Stressed out by the weather? Too many hours sitting at your desk? No motivation to exercise? Fear not Sassy girls, we might just have the answer for you! It’s time to limber up, flex those muscles, relax and unwind with a session at Pilates Place, your new go-to studio for anyone living or working in the Central area.

Conveniently located in the heart of Wyndham Street, Pilates Place is a haven amongst Soho’s bustling bars and restaurants. Despite its location, it is spacious peaceful and will take you to the height of relaxation on the 9/F. Jerry, a lovely chap and one of the two instructors at Pilates Place, has been fixing, flexing and firming the ladies (and gents!) of Central since 2010. Offering group (up to 3 people) or individual classes, I quickly realised this was a very different form of Pilates to what I had experienced before!

Pilates, as a form of exercise, seeks to increase the strength, flexibility and control of the body. Focusing on building your core and improving your posture it encourages you to perform a series of low repetition, low impact stretching and conditioning exercises. Ideal for ladies, gents, athletes or new mums, Pilates caters to all age groups and differing fitness levels.

Thus, I came to Pilates Place expecting the usual group class, soothing music and an instructor at the front promising to take you to paradise and back within your hour long session. Instead, Jerry welcomed me into the bright and spacious studio, which had all the usual trimmings but rather than just a sea of mats, boasted several intriguing pieces of equipment, many of which I had never seen before!

After a brief consultation during which we discussed what I was looking for and any aches and pains I brought with me, I quickly realised this was a one-on-one session. This certainly has its advantages, especially if you are looking to Pilates to correct your posture or fix a back problem, which I was.

Talking me through a series of exercises and stretches to strengthen certain muscles and ease the tension in others, I discovered just how beneficial it was to have a personal instructor. With the undivided attention of an experienced professional and extremely knowledgeable instructor, the possibility of performing exercises incorrectly is immediately eliminated. Taking advantage of all the new different pieces of equipment just added to the experience and my confidence.

So if you’re quietly suffering from the aches and pains of sitting at a desk or want to increase your flexibility, then book yourself in to Pilates Place for an enjoyable relaxing and highly professional experience.

Private individual and small group sessions range from $770-1000 per session, open group sessions cost $320. See Pilates Place’s full schedule here.
