Paul Gerrard – our go-to salon for hair, nails and pampering! Plus a Special Sassy Giveaway

28 July, 2015

We stopped by one of the best hair salons in Hong Kong, Paul Gerrard.

The expert hair stylists at Paul Gerrard, a well-loved and super cool, sleek salon in our city, gave some of our Sassy Girls a fresh new look for summer. They chopped, coloured and tousled our locks so that they looked stylish and suitable for the sunny season! Find out what they did to each Sassy Girl and why to achieve these subtle yet sophisticated ‘dos, and take a peek at the meticulous manicures that we were given by the fabulous nail-team too.

We asked each stylist at Paul Gerrard what hair cut they chose for each Sassy Girl and how it suited their face shape and why they chose a specific hair treatment or colour. Check out the transformations below… we do love a good makeover!

Stylist: Natani Laas, Manicurist: Melissa Lam

Natani: We kept the hair beautiful and long with soft layers and a deep side parting as it compliments the beautiful Simran’s facial features and is easy to manage in this super humid weather. We chose the Joico rejuvenating hair treatment as it works deep inside the hair to rebuild and moisturise it from the inside out, restoring the natural health and shine. For our colour work, we used an ammonia-free demi permanent colour as we only wanted to enhance the lovely natural colour and refresh the previous highlights that Simran had, adding shine and a soft glow to the hair.

We finished the hair by styling it with the ghd curve, making the waves with our fingers to loosen it and create a more beachy feel.

For Simran’s nails, Melissa used two different orange tones to add some variety to the simple, geometric nail art. We love the subtle different in colour and the quirky take on a French manicure!

Stylist: Astin Mak, Manicurist: Melissa Lam

Astin: As it had been some time between haircuts, Nina’s hair was long, heavy and out of shape. We decided to bring balance back into her haircut and remove the asymmetry from her previous look, so that her hair is more manageable and has a much more modern feel. Over all, we wanted to draw length to Nina’s face – we didn’t over layer the shape but gave it enough movement to create versatility so that it can be worn either sleek and smooth or with more texture.

We wanted to brighten Nina’s look, bringing colour to her complexion and adding a texture to the shape, so we lifted her base colour through highlights using a variation of tones for a more natural feel. We ended up with an overall lighter colour and texture that truly compliments Nina’s personal image. I used Wella for colour and a ghd styler, Morrocan oil and Evo Salty Dog for styling.

Nina opted for a bright coral pop for her mani colour, and went for a clean, modern look with the nail art using a splash of the same colour on the tips.

paul gerrard - sammy beforeSamantha, Partnerships Executive
Stylist: Gabriel, Manicurist: Melissa Lam

Gabriel: Samantha has an oval face shape so she suits most haircuts. I decided to go with very long, tousled layers at the back and shorter layers at the front to bring out her cheekbones and make it fun and young! That haircut is very low maintenance and suitable for someone with a lot of fine hair.

Colour wise, I gave Samantha lots of very light blonde baby-lights and toned them with a nice creamy blonde for softness and shine. To finish, we used the “deep penetrating reconstructor treatment” from Joico to put back any protein lost from all the colour services she had through the years. Finally I blow dried using the ghd aura and a big round brush for shiny smooth hair that suits her style and personality.

Melissa carefully applied this classic red hue to Sammy’s nail to give her a burst of fiery colour on her fingertips!

Lauren, Sassy Editor
Stylists: Hamish Glianos + Millie, Manicurist: Tracy

Hamish: After a consultation with Lauren, we decided to make a slight but less dramatic change. We took into account Lauren’s lifestyle and general everyday maintenance and agreed on a haircut that would complement both. I ended up lifting Lauren’s overall length to her collar bone to encourage a fuller feel and layered lightly into the ends of the hair leaving the front corners one length. This was done to create volume and movement but taking into account that Lauren’s face shape suited longer lengths toward the front. This also gave the haircut a more modern A-line feel.

paul gerrard - laurenMillie: I used an organics colour system as the base colour, a chocolate brown that merged into ombre ends. Organics were chosen for the intense shine and to keep the integrity of the hair. Using two different tones, caramel and honey, I created beautiful Balayage ends with an all natural effect. Wella koleston perfect colours were used in the process for stronger results, especially to lift the natural colour. I used random placement of the Balayage technique with the focal point starting below the eye level. This created a sun-kissed illusion… perfect for summer!

Hamish has over 20 years in the industry and was a finalist for Australian Hairdresser of the year.
