Ezina – our new go-to for Elemis facials in Hong Kong

4 October, 2013

The eagle-eyed amongst you may have noticed that the much-loved Elemis Day Spa (latterly known as EDS) in Central closed earlier this year. Fear not, however, because I have found a fab new spot for Elemis treatments in Hong Kong – Ezina in Tsim Sha Tsui.

Located in Vita, a swanky new part of the Harbour City mall filled with little pampering salons and beauty brand boutiques, Ezina offers a full menu of signature Elemis treatments, including their famous facials, body massages and some (non Elemis!) waxing services too. I was invited to try out the Elemis Modern Skin Facial… and was mightily impressed with the results.

Word up, though – Ezina is nowhere near as spacious as EDS once was. Comprising a few clean basic treatment rooms and a main reception area selling Elemis goodies decorated largely in chic white (with a few cute Union Jack cushions!), it feels like a more upmarket, modern version of a typical local beauty salon; however, what they lack in size, they make up for in expertise – this was one of the best facials I’ve had all year!

After completing a detailed questionnaire about my skin and complexion, it was onto my hour-long treatment. The Modern Skin Facial is designed to tackle the problems of urban living, by reducing toxins and rebalancing and renewing your complexion – perfect for stressed out souls like myself!

After a lovely “Welcome Touch” featuring a Thai foot ritual, my mood was set to ‘relax’ and my therapist got down to the facial basics – cleansing, toning, exfoliating and all that jazz. I was instantly impressed with the massaging nature of the facial, with my therapist using firm supple strokes around my face and eye area, which felt wonderful against my tired skin. I’ve long been a fan of Elemis’ Papaya Enzyme Peel, so was thrilled that this was used for the exfoliation stage; it’s one of the least harsh facial scrubs around, yet still gives great results… and has a delicious, energising scent to boot!

After a gentle blackhead extraction that did the trick for some of my worst pore offenders, it was onto my favourite part of any facial – the mask! The reason it’s my favourite part? Because this is where you always get a couple of massages thrown in! After my cooling Mineral-Rich Peel Off Mask was applied, I was treated to an amazing scalp massage, followed by a neck and shoulder massage using the even more delicious smelling Elemis Frangipani Monoi Body Oil. This must have been good because I promptly fell asleep in a haze of pampering bliss!

I very rarely fall asleep during treatments so either this was amazing or I was even more stressed than usual (combination of the two?!), but during my beauty sleep session, my therapist also applied some Elemis Cellular Recovery Skin Bliss Capsules, an Exotic Cream Moisturising Mask and finally, a Pro-Collagen Advanced Eye Treatment and Daily Redness Solution Moisturiser – all of which aim to boost radiance, regenerate skin cells, and deeply hydrate, calm and soothe the skin.

The only part of the Modern Skin Facial I wasn’t too fussed about was the constant toning, which happened four or five times throughout, and I found a little astringent on my sensitive skin. However, this was probably balanced out by the other Elemis products used, which felt luxurious and moisturising without being too rich or heavy.

Finally, there was a ding of the bells and my time was up! On looking in the mirror, I was already happy with the results. My skin was visibly brighter and clearer, my blackheads were minimised, and my face even looked firmer and less puffy too. Meanwhile, the best sign of a good facial – those tingling beginnings of a breakout had been firmly put to bed and my glowing facial feelgood factor lasted for at least a week afterwards.

Although I do think the Modern Skin Facial’s price of $1,280 is a
