The Best Mexican Restaurants In Hong Kong

Taqueria Super Macho

Since opening its doors in May 2019, Taqueria Super Macho has drawn in the crowds for its authentic take on tacos. The lively restaurant is inspired by the laidback taquerias of Puerto Vallarta and Cabo San Lucas, and brings a taste of Baja to the streets of SoHo. We love that the tacos are served “naked”, so that you can DIY your own creation with the variety of toppings available, including cabbage, onion, cilantro and a range of sauces and salsas. Don’t miss out on trying the Crispy Shrimp Taco or the fully loaded Grilled Chicken Tostada, and be sure to wash it all down with a frozen margarita.

Brickhouse

Don’t be deterred by the slightly random trek down an alley in LKF to reach Brickhouse – the eclectic menu and vast choice of Mexican bites make it a must-try! We’ve always been fans of its Mexican Street Sweetcorn and the exciting list of cocktails, which help to make it an awesome party spot, or vibrant dinner date destination. Brickhouse also offers an unbeatable Saturday night brunch featuring free-flow drinks, unlimited portions of tacos and more.

11 Westside

Opening in Hong Kong in 2017 to much fanfare, many claim that 11 Westside offers up the best tacos in the city. Brought to the 852 by chef Esdras Ochoa (of renowned LA spot Salazar), expect fresh Mexican ingredients, handmade corn tortillas and a selection of tacos. Priced between $48 and $58, tacos on offer cover everything from the classic Al Pastor and Carnitas, to Mango Shrimp and California Veggie creations. Plus, did we mention that the restaurant also serves up table-side guac?

Te Quiero Mucho

This vibrant Mexican eatery and bar can be found in the Mojo Nomad hotel on Queen’s Road Central in Sheung Wan. Open daily from 6:30pm until late, head here anytime of the day and choose from breakfast favourites such as huevos rancheros, wallet-friendly set lunches, hearty taco dinners and a range of speciality cocktails. Along with a selection of small plates, salads, tostadas, tacos and “mucho grande” plates, don’t miss out on trying one (or two!) of the Mexican-inspired desserts, which include deconstructed tres leches and homemade churros.

El Macho

Another newcomer to the Hong Kong Mexican scene, El Macho opened in early 2019 and offers a colourful and vibrant setting, along with a range of flavourful plates. Classics such as quesadillas, burritos and fajitas are all on the menu, but we’re fans of its Nachos – made with homemade corn tortilla chips and a range of hearty toppings.

Los Sotano

Found in the heart of LKF, Los Sotano is a Mexican secret hideout that serves a selection of Mexican fare and experimental agave-based drinks. Find the secret barrel door to discover your way in and enter into an underground world – that’s far away from the busy streets of Central. Taking its stylistic cue from Oaxaca, the bar’s walls are embellished with gold skulls. Along with cocktail favourites such as the Los Sotano Margarita and an array of tequila tasting flights on offer, the bar and restaurant also serves tacos (complete with homemade corn tortillas), and bigger plates such as the Tequila USDA Ribeye, Lasagna Mexicano and more.

Chino

Kennedy Town has become a ‘hood full of firm foodie favourites in recent years, and Chino is up there on our list for its cool factor and Mexican flare. With street art covering the walls and tasty, Japanese-inspired Mexican dishes on our plates, we can’t get enough of its fusion feasts.

COA

Okay, we know that this one is more of a bar than a restaurant, but we couldn’t resist sneaking this Oaxaca-inspired cocktail bar into our roundup. Tucked away on Shin Hing Lane (just off Gough Street), the bar (which is currently number 12 on Asia’s 50 Best Bars list for 2019), features a huge range of Tequila and Mezcal, along with many other Mexican spirits and drinks. Need a recommendation? We loved the Horchata De Pistacho, alongside some killer guac and chips.

Taco Chaca

If you’re not feeling a big restaurant and a full-on sit-down meal, check out Taco Chaca – a down-to-earth, affordable and tasty taqueria. The portions are huge (win) and extremely good value for money, and if you don’t mind perching on stools and eating off paper plates, then you’ll fall in love with this Sai Ying Pun hide out.

XOCO Mexican Cantina & Bar

Found on Mosque Street, XOCO is a small restaurant that serves up big portions. The tacos, enchiladas and quesadillas are stuffed full of black beans, rice, your choice of high-quality meat and cheese, so we recommend arriving hungry. For a slightly lighter choice, opt for the perfectly cooked build-your-own steak fajitas, which are served on a sizzling hot plate. And don’t forget the frozen margaritas served in adorable cactus glasses!
