Team Sassy predicts mint chocolate will be the next big thing in Hong Kong! Look out for this classic combo in not-so-classic confections like egg rolls, egg waffles and even mooncakes. Remember, you heard it here first…
Now hear us out. While everyone is climbing on the train to pistachio town (us included!), we have clocked a flavour combo, which albeit classic, is making its big comeback in unexpected Hong Kong delights. We first loved mint-chocolate in ice-cream form, before progressing to classic After Eights (Arnott’s Mint Slice if you’re an Aussie) but it’s since taken on delicious new life on home soil! We caught onto the trend early so you can keep your eyes peeled as it starts to crop up around town.

Wah Yee Tang 1984 – Rolling With The Mint Trend
Nothing beats the flakey, eat quick or they’ll crumble-in-your hands joy of devouring an egg roll. For many Hong Kongers, this delicate, wafer-thin specialty sums up childhood nostalgia at its best, straight from grandma’s gold tin for many. Definitely one of the most creative iterations we’ve seen. While the mint chocolate version is firmer in texture than its OG counterpart, the addition of melty chocolate chips makes it decadently next level.

Pig Mates – Egg Waffles Get The Mint Choc Treatment
If Hong Kong could be summed up in a bite, the satisfying crunch of the outer layer of an egg waffle before hitting its soft, pillowy centre would be it. And just like the unique East-meets-West vibe that is our city, mint chocolate gai daan jais represent the best of both worlds – American flavours in a HK-favourite form. Launched this summer, you’re best wrapping your hands around these waffles sooner rather than later.
