Can you wallpaper a rented apartment?

30 June, 2010

Lonny Magazine recently featured the above tip for using wallpaper if you are renting your apartment. I’ve always loved the look of wallpaper on one wall of a small room to add real personality to a space, and now it seems as though it might actually be possible! By layering double-stick tape over masking tape, you can essentially stick your wallpaper right onto the wall, without even the need to be a pro at sticky wallpaper paste. That being said, I’d imagine this is a job for a true perfectionist to make sure edges line up and the paper is bubble-free. With Hong Kong humidity the fact that the paper is not truly gummed all over to the wall might be a problem in terms of peeling. BUT, for a super-small space (and let’s face it, we all have plenty of those) I definitely think it could be worth a try.

One of my favourite kid’s room ideas using wallpaper is to cover one wall with a huge map of the world. I love the idea that a child would drift off to sleep dreaming of exploring foreign lands…

But my absolute dream would be to cover the walls of our apartment with some really bright floral prints. I think my husband would have something to say about this idea though! I especially like the image in the bottom left corner with the empty frame placed on top of the wallpaper. I think I would have to make sure I was very committed to the whole idea first though before I tried it out, as for some reason one day I can completely love crazy florals, and the next I love clean, white walls!
