Elia

If you’re looking for a bit of Spanish flavour with your shisha, Elia is the place to head. A newcomer to the Tsim Sha Tsui dining scene, the contemporary European restaurant-cum-bar is inspired by the vintage nautical Spanish scene, where South-eastern Spanish bites with Asian influences are served. Offering up the ever-popular Aces Co. shisha, guests can sit out on the spacious al fresco area, and take in the iconic views of the Hong Kong skyline and harbour, with a cocktail in hand. Open from 3pm daily (with shisha available from 6:30pm), it’s the new destination in TST to know.

Runway

This 1950’s, vintage flight inspired bar is sure to whisk you away to far from the 852, with international influences captured in both its food and drinks. Along with a globally inspired bar menu, Runway also serves up shisha by Shisha Lab, which also follows its “around the world” theme. Featuring shisha flavours that are also different country names, the menu includes the likes of Copacabana (mango, kiwi and mint), Jamaica (mint chocolate chill and orange mint), New England Berry Blast (double apple – blue(berry) mist) and more. And the best bit about enjoying shisha at Runway? With the purchase of one shisha, you can get two drinks on the house! Available everyday between 4pm and 7pm.

Awtar

Mediterranean flavour and flare are here to stay in SoHo in the form of Awtar’s premium shisha and cocktails (Almond Coffee Martini, marry me). Don’t be discouraged if this snug Staunton Street spot seems packed at first glance, there’s plenty of room to relax and indulge over its two floors. Expect a wide range of flavoured tobacco, paired with organic fruit and be refreshed with its signature cool ice-pipes. The traditional cosy, Turkish lamp decor draws you in, and the lush smoke makes it hard to leave.

Sumac

This sneaky shisha spot is nestled right above Lan Kwai Fong, making it the perfect escape from mayhem. A door up from its authentic Lebanese restaurant, the Sumac lounge is an absolute hookah haven: a warm terracotta room full of rustic wooden furnishings, complete with its own secluded terrace. The custom-made shisha pipes are easy on the eyes and even easier on the lungs. With its natural coals and traditional flavours, if it’s not true to its heritage, you won’t find it here.

Boba Bear

Originally from Los Angeles, Boba Bear has been welcomed to Hong Kong with (ahem) open lungs. We love B.B. for its large and uniquely delicious flavour selection (Spiced Chai, White Peach… yes, please!). Haven’t the foggiest where to begin? Go for the sample tray (a test-tube rack sampling all 40 flavours). You can mix and match up to three flavours at a time, so go wild! Additional add-ons come in the form of pineapple bowls, ice bases or your choice of wine/spirit mixers. Kick back on its gorgeous rooftop terrace overlooking Causeway Bay.

‘Ohana Tiki Lounge

“Ohana means family, and family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten”… for Tiki Shisha, that is. Towering above the crowds in Wan Chai, ‘Ohana is Boba Bear’s latest venture in Hong Kong. Served in BB’s signature Shishabucks sets, it offers tropical flavours like Strawberry Margarita and Watermelon Chill, and a very dangerous add on: the Jägerbomb base. ‘Ohana’s open terrace is perfect for puffing away with the whole squad while you peruse a treasure map in quest of your next indulgence.

Vibes

We can’t get enough of Vibes, a secret garden lounge hidden atop Kowloon’s Mira Hotel courtyard, secluded yet alfresco. Vibes’ very own shisha sheikh (yes, really) prepares the freshest hookahs with authentic flavours for the longest lasting, thickest smokes. Lie back on the comfy sofas, or splurge on a private cabana with friends. If you still need to raise the stakes, the atmosphere is amped up even more on Thursdays, with belly dance performances, Arabic lounge beats and mezzo platters galore. Surprisingly affordable for a hotel bar, Vibes proves it’s here to stay in our top picks.

Newcomer Tenkei has stolen our hearts with its impeccable Japanese izakaya fare and Insta-worthy alfresco Bamboo Garden and Sakura Garden. The in-house shisha experts from local brand Aces Co. will gladly create whatever flavour (Earl Grey is a winner) your tastebuds desire, served up in lightweight tanks. Chill out under sakura trees with one of its many creative tea-based cocktails and immerse yourself in smoke bubbles with the fun bubbleheads.

Lilya

Another top pick for those seeking an authentic experience, Lilya brings a slice of Morocco to the 852 with its all-Moroccan team, exotic food, and exquisite decor sourced straight from Marrakech. It’s a wonderfully intimate bar that, when coupled up with the light smokey haze and mosaic tile floors, is reminiscent of a classy but comfortable den. The shisha offered here holds its clouds and flavours even as it spills out onto the balcony overlooking busy Wyndham Street. Hook-ah up with a date at Lilya and enjoy a comfortable night puffing away on its modern pipes.

Yehhiu

Famous DJ and producer Zedd visited Yehhiu after his Hong Kong tour stop and nearly didn’t leave – we don’t blame him! Embodying the “spirit of the night owl”, it caters to all your party needs with beer pong, flipcup, and of course, shisha. All prepared in-house by the Mou6Shisha team, we’re loving the exclusive local tea flavours like Jasmine Lipton and Tea Time (a calming earl grey cream). You can even ask for roses and fruits to be added to your futuristic Hoob hookah for an extra punch. Yehhiu urges everyone to play through life and it definitely delivers.
