Ăn Chơi – Unique Vietnamese restaurant loved by Team Sassy
Recommened by both Michelin Bib Gourmand and two Team Sassy members, Ăn Chơi is known for its eclectic decor and chill vibes, owning and highlighting its “cheesy awning and tacky menus”. Brass Spoon – The best pho in Hong Kong? We think so!
Yes, it was disappointing when this Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant closed its long-loved branch in Wan Chai, but at least we still have locations in Central and The Southside! Our team’s resident Vietnamese cuisine lover says that although the menu is simple, the pho always hits the spot. This checks out since Chef Owner Sébastien Vong has been serving the award-winning pho (don’t miss the premium raw beef option) for over eight years, crafting it to perfection.
Price: Mains range from $84 to $125
Opening hours: Central — Monday to Wednesday, 12pm to 8pm; Thursday to Saturday, 12pm to 9pm; Closed on Sundays; TSS — 12pm to 9pm

Phở nhất – Understated Vietnamese restaurant in Sheung Wan
Look, let’s call a spade a spade, you’re unlikely to get the best service in Hong Kong when you stop over at Phở nhất, but you are almost guaranteed a great bowl of pho. Some argue that this low-key establishment serves a tastier bowl than most of the “fancier” spots on this list, so maybe just write off the service as part of the authentic experience? At these prices, we’re not complaining!
Price: Mains range from $68 to $128
Opening hours: 11:30am to 10pm

Cô Thành Restaurant – An ode to Vietnam’s The Lunch Lady in Pacific Place and Basehall
As an ode to Ho Chi Minh City’s Nyguen Thi Thanh (aka The Lunch Lady) – who gained global recognition after appearing on Anthony Bourdain’s “No Reservations” – her sole apprentice opened up Cô Thành to bring her recipes to the 852. While the banh mi and appetisers carry their own, it’s no surprise the soup noodles here really shine (that being The Lunch Lady’s main forte). You can’t go wrong with the Bun Bo Hue, and the Bun Nam is a popular choice for seafood lovers.
Price: Mains range from $98 to $138
Opening hours: Pacific Place — 11:30am to 10pm; Basehall — Monday to Saturday, 11am to 9:30pm; Closed on Sundays

Xuân Modern Vietnamese – Go-to for unique and classic dishes in Tsim Sha Tsui
Another recommendation from Emily, our Partnerships Manager, Xuân was named after an iconically risqué 18th century female poet named Hồ Xuân Hương, and is similarly progressive in its attitude, menu and decor. With northern influences and deliciously crafted cocktails inspired by the nation’s signature flavours, this is the perfect spot to pop in for lunch or after work with your colleagues. While we tend to go for the appetisers, the signature beef pho shouldn’t be slept on either! We’re eyeing the soft shell crab, shrimp ceviche and Bò Lúc Lắc shaking beef for our next visit…
Price: Mains range from $118 $298
Opening hours: 11:30am to 10pm
Deals: Xuân’s lunch set for $138 includes a starter, main and drink or dessert.
Sassy Tip: Do you find that a normal bowl of pho is often too big to finish? Try Xuân’s Pho Fillet Hanoi (light) or Three-Yellow Chicken Pho (light) for a smaller portion that you can easily gulp down to its dregs!

BEP Vietnamese Kitchen – Nha Trang Group-owned eatery serving homey Vietnamese food
While we were sad to say goodbye to BEP’s K11 MUSEA branch, we’re happy there are still spots in Central, Sheung Wan and Olympian City. This cool and casual Vietnamese restaurant never disappoints with its soul-hugging bun rieu and tasty starters inspired by Ho Chi Minh City’s street-side cafes. Expect a huge menu with hearty portions, and if you deign to try the Central branch at lunch time, be prepared to wait! Our Editorial Coordinator’s beat-the-heat trick in Hong Kong summer is to grab a Vietnamese iced coffee for takeaway — it truly hits the spot, especially if you have a sweet tooth.
Price: Mains range from $88 to $208
Opening hours: Sheung Wan & Olympian City — 11:30am to 9:30pm; Central — Monday to Friday, 12pm to 10pm; Saturday to Sunday, 11:30am to 10pm

Bun Cha Vietnamese Cafe – Authentic Vietnamese bun cha, pho and more
Bun Cha is our go-to spot when we’re hungry for a steaming bowl of pho. This place is not shy with its portions, so expect nothing less than a heaping pile of beef in your pho bo. On sweltering days, we’ll likely order a bun rice vermicelli and Iced VN Filter Coffee with condensed milk. Bun Cha is also ideal for a quick, affordable bite during the work day if you’re situated in Hong Kong Island as it has branches in SoHo, Sai Ying Pun and Kennedy Town.
Price: Mains range from $50 to $95
