The heat (and rain!) has well and truly settled in, and we’re still pounding the pavements searching for the hottest events in town! Grab a seat at centre court, relax with a yoga session and learn to cook like a pro… Nigella, eat your heart out! It’s all here in our Weekender.
Broadway brilliance
Tired of the same old weekends? Why not inject a bit of culture into your weekly antics and book tickets to a fabulous award-winning play? Venus in Fur is a kinky comedy that was a hit on Broadway, and we were so excited when it was staged at the Fringe Club the first time. Now it’s back for round two this September and we can’t wait to see this evocative play again! Based on the novel by Leopold Sacher-Masoch (yes, his name inspired the term ‘sado-masochism’!), this 90-minute play looks at the themes of domination and the nature of attraction as you’re taken through a hilarious encounter between an actress and a playwright. Expect a fast-paced, racy production that will leave you laughing!

For all budding chefs…
Now as much as we try, we can’t do everything and be everywhere at the same time! Between work and a social life, it can be difficult to get in the kitchen and rustle up something delectable and nutritious for dinner. Plus, with the abundance of awesome eateries in the ’Kong, it’s often easier to eat out! Wait ‘til you hear about this one, though – Grassroots Pantry is hosting a three-course cooking class to give you some chef skills. Learn to cook grilled figs and panko-crusted halloumi salad, veggie orzo pasta, and decadent banoffee pie for dessert. You’ll have all your friends and family wanting to come round once you’ve perfected these delicious recipes!
When: 23 August, 10am-12 noon
Where: Grassroots Pantry, G/F, 14 Fuk Sau Lane, Sai Ying Pun, Hong Kong
How much: $500 per person, which includes a tasting, a voucher, recipe cards and a tote bag. RSVP to [email protected] to secure your spot.

All this is happening among the Design Market – a showcase of local designer collections of fashion, jewellery, accessories and home ware. This is one not to miss!

Just chill
It’s unbearably hot in Honkers this summer, and we’ve totally failed our diets and indulged in some icy treats. Our fridge in the office is often packed with tasty ice creams, so why shouldn’t we get our fix tomorrow, too? Head down to lifestyle store Tang Tang Tang Tang in the afternoon for an ice lolly from Lola’s Ice Pops… but you best get there on time, girls, as there are only 150 going! Shopping and ice cream… what a way to start the weekend!
When: 16 August, from 2pm until stocks last
Where: Tang Tang Tang Tang, 66 Johnston Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong
How much: Free!
