weekender_EDM_header

Welcome back! It’s our first Weekender of 2015! Ready to get back on the fitness wheel? Then Barre2Barre will definitely inspire you. If you’re already sick of the office then an evening at the AIA Carnival is sure to do the trick. Let it all out at Avenged Sevenfold or simply ease back into the swing of things and catch up on your favourite TV shows! It’s all in our Weekender…

Barre2Barre

Unfit2Fit
January means a health kick, and with that comes a new exercise regimen. Gone are the dreary days of slugging it on the treadmill, check out Suzanne Bowen, the founder of BarreAmped and international fitness personality at the BarreAmped Intensive Weekend at Barre2Barre. There will be Barre classes (a combination of ballet, yoga and Pilates), workshops and Q&A sessions with Bowen herself. It’s definitely worth checking out if one of your resolutions is to get fit…

When: Friday, 23 – Sunday, 25 January
Where: All over town!
How much: $1,600 for a full weekend pass, $800 for a one-day pass, $280 for a community class with Suzanne Bowen on 25 January. Tickets are available here.

Creative Mornings

Creative inspo
Are you a creative type in need of some career inspiration? Check out CreativeMornings monthly talks. This January, Jay Forster, the driving force behind Clockenflap, will share his experience in developing this funky art and music festival that’s taken our city by storm. Time to embrace those resolutions and learn a thing or two!

Where: Hub @PMQ, 7/F, Staunton Block, 35 Aberdeen Street, Central, Hong Kong
How much: Free! Register here from 11am on Friday, 9 January.

Avenged Sevenfold

Rock ‘n’ roll
In the mood for some metal? Check out Californian rock band Avenged Sevenfold at AsiaWorld-Expo. They’ll be rocking some ear-splitting guitar riffs in support of their latest album Hail to the King. If this sounds like your thing, grab those tickets, head over next week and join the mosh pit. See you there!

When: Wednesday, 14 January, 8pm
Where: AsiaWorld-Expo, Asia World Summit, Lantau, Hong Kong
How much: Tickets are $788 and available from www.hkticketing.com or by calling 3128 8288.

DragonsBack-1Weekend inspo
Let’s be honest. It’s the first week of January and there isn’t a lot going on this weekend… unless you’re a crazy cat lady (anyone fancy the United Feline Odyssey New Year Champion Cat Show?! It’s happening in Yau Ma Tei and it’s free – just saying). If you didn’t check out the AIA Carnival over Christmas, we recommend you pop down to the Central harbour front to check it out and have a whirl on the rides. Or embrace HK’s Great Outdoors and try out one of the many hikes our city has to offer (see our Top Hikes for Beginners here if you need ideas!). This is a great weekend to just chill out and get back into a routine after the madness of Christmas, and perhaps start working on those New Year’s resolutions and take up a new hobby!

Girls

Telly time
If you’re still feeling a bit sluggish and in need of more recovery time after all the holiday splurges (no judgement!), you’ll be glad to know that the first week of January also means the return of some of our favourite television shows. Check out Girls, starring Lena Dunham, and follow Hannah and her buddies as they navigate New York City as 20-somethings. Glee also returns to the screen, and it’s sure to put a smile on your face as you sing along to Ryan Murphy’s take on pop hits. Other sitcoms starting this week are The Big Bang Theory, Modern Family and New Girl, to name a few… enjoy a lazy day in bed, girls!

When: Girls starts on Sunday, 11 January; Glee starts on Friday, 9 January; The Big Bang Theory started on Thursday, 8 January; Modern Family started on Wednesday, 7 January and New Girl started on Tuesday, 6 January.
