Sassy’s Trend Watch: Fringe

29 April, 2015

Yeah, I shake it, shake it like I’m supposed to do (as Meghan Trainor would say!)… but it helps when I’m wearing something equally as fun as my attitude. Hello fringe! From jeans to gowns, this little loose add-on amplifies any outfit, adding a boho flair and a whole lot of life to your look. But how can you wear fringe without looking like you are two braided bracelets away from a music festival? Here to help is our Trend Watch with loads of style ideas and useful tips for carrying off this tasseled trend without being carried away!

IN THE DETAILS: FRINGE-CESSORY

TrendWatch-Fringe1

From left to right: Marc Jacobs Locked In Orbit Ring, Monki Minty Rings, Tory Burch Adeline Stackable Rings, UNIQLO Silk Long Sleeve Blouse, Alexis Bittar Gold and Crystal Spear Necklace, Nars Lipstick in Liguria, Diptyque Black Baies Candle, Karen Millen Ripped and frayed skinny jean, ghd Sahara Gold Gift Set, Stuart Weitzman The Lovefringe Sandal, Furla Kelis Travel Tote

If you’re tempted by the trim but are afraid to take the leap, then start with dipping one toe in… or better yet, two feet! Our look starts with a Stuart Weitzman sandal in a very lovely hue – perfect for a light pad around Central. Add a matching silk blouse by Uniqlo (local faves Vaughan and Grana also suit well) for a loose luxe look. I just bought these incredibly comfy boyfriend jeans from Karen Millen and have been living in them! If you need some boyfriend jean inspiration, then check this out, but be sure to put a cuff in the hem. For the sparkly bits, we add a host of gold rings from Monki, Marc Jacobs, and Tory Burch and a very sleek sharp pendant from Alexis Bittar. Pull the whole look together with this oversized travel Kelis tote by Furla. You can even stash your gorgeous gold ghd straightener in it so you’re ready to be glam on the go!

DAY TO NIGHT ESSENTIAL: THE FRINGE SKIRT

TrendWatch-Fringe2

From left to right: Equipment Lana Sunglasses Red Handcrafted Sunglasses, Balmain Cotton-jersey T-shirt, Olivia Burton The Hackney Rose Gold Plated Watch, Henri Bendel West 57th Leather Tassel Phone Case, Kate Spade New York Love Birds Wink Clutch, TOPSHOP Fringe Lace Pencil Skirt, CC Skye Pave Double Header Spike Bracelet, Michael Kors Rose Golden Pave Pyramid Bangle, Ted Baker Clowi T Pattern Enamel Bangle, CHANEL COCO MADEMOISELLE Eau de Parfum Spray, Gianvito Rossi Suede pumps

From brunching to lunching to munching hors d’oeuvres with champers, this look takes you from event to event with ease. A basic white tee provides the perfect neutral to set off a very girly TOPSHOP lace and fringe skirt (learn to love lace here). To add a little spice to a sugary look, I opt for a bright Gianvito Rossi pump and a quirky clutch from kate spade new york. To keep with the floral tones, I would add a Coco Mademoiselle perfume and a bevy of rose gold beauties to your wrist. The one thing you must remember when wearing fringe is to stay on the move. No one wants to see these embellishments just hanging there, so be sure to put some shimmy shake in that step of yours!

Here are a few more skirt-spirations for you. And what do I spy with my little eye? Super Styler Sarah Rutson sporting a fringey skirt!

PARTY PERFECT: THE FRINGE DRESS

TrendWatch-Fringe3From left to right: Saint Laurent YSL Logo Cuff Bracelet, Mango Fringed Hem Dress, Furla Satchel – Candy Cookie Paint Mini, Cards Against Humanity, 3.1 Phillip Lim x Linda Farrow acetate chunky cat eye sunglasses, Proenza Schouler Black Block Heel Suede Sandals, Crabtree & Evelyn Nail Polish – Snowdrop, Hendricks Gin

When have I ever put a monochrome look together for Sassy?! Quick, call a nurse! This look was so perfect it didn’t even need one splash colour, though I couldn’t help but put a paint slashed satchel in the mix. Gone are the Gastby-themed parties and in with 60s mod! This anything-but-basic Mango dress draws attention to you for all the right reasons. The v-neck will first bring the eye to your face and the simple white shift shape skims over any areas you may wish to conceal. Then the fantastic fringe hem pulls attention to those gorgeous gams of yours! Since the shift is short, keep the heel low and structured with these architectural Proenza Shouler block heel sandals. Your bag is going to get heavy with your Cards Against Humanity set and a bottle of gin in there… but it will be worth it. Think of the Instagram photos! With a look like this, you will want to party until the wee hours of the morning, so there are some spectacular 3.1 Phillip Lim x Linda Farrow shades at the ready.

Check out some other fringe dress ideas below – from red to wild and all that’s in between. Even ‘Kate the Great’ rocks a flouncy little number on her night out.

TALK OF THE TOWN: THE FRINGE TOP

TrendWatch-Fringe4From left to right: Gold Dreamcatcher Ring, Victoria’s Secret Embroidered Fringe Top, Lanvin Snake Chain Tassel Earrings, 3.1 Phillip Lim Mini Pashli Satchel, Mara Hoffman El Mundo High Waisted Pencil Skirt, Too Faced Cocoa Contour, Klub Nico Moxie, H&M Bronzing powder

With the addition of this swingy top, your whole look will wave goodbye (and we aren’t talking about Aunt Odelle’s jiggle arms!). When the top is loose you can find balance by keeping the bottom more fitted. Pencil skirts are flattering on a variety of shapes and are appropriate for almost any environment. Keep the movement going with a pair of fringy earrings! To lighten the look, white accessories are added in the way of a laser cut shoe by Klub Nico and a mini Pashli satchel by 3.1 Phillip Lim. Nothing says summer like the perfect golden glow, so save your skin and fake your way with products from H&M and Bobbi Brown. This is one summer look that is sure to impress.

Clearly fringe will get you stopped and snapped on the street! Even Anna can’t escape this trend – or the cameras wanting to capture it!
