Helping Victims of Nepal’s Earthquake

The earthquake which devastated Nepal last Saturday is one that has left the entire world reeling, with a horrific death count of 3,326 that continues to climb, over 6,500 injured and thousands of beloved family homes cast to rubble in a matter of minutes. The 7.8 quake (the worst in 80 years) also set off an avalanche on Mount Everest, fatally wounding climbers and sweeping away significant parts of the base camp, and there have been reports that entire communities close to the epicentre have been levelled – one man told the BBC that ‘almost every home in his village… had been destroyed’. All Hands
All Hands is currently putting together a team who will be heading over to help assess the situation and provide emergency relief including sanitation, clean water and food. You can donate here.

Child Welfare Scheme
This registered Hong Kong charity is one that’s pledging to send 100% of all funds raised to their teams in Nepal, where their team and partners on the ground are already making progress helping those afflicted. They’ll be providing healthcare as well as counselling services to people in need, with an aim to raise at least $500,000 to ensure those resources continue. Donate here.

Global Fund For Women
Global Fund For Women, a humanitarian organisation that empowers women across the world, is raising funds. They’ll be supporting key partner organisations on the ground with a specific aim to help women throughout the crisis. Donate here.

CARE
Providing critical water, food and shelter to affected families, CARE is gathering donations here to aid their relief efforts over in Nepal.

Global Giving
This internationally renowned organisation is one that’s planned out a step by step relief programme which will initially assist first responders by providing food, fuel, hygiene products, clean water and shelter before helping support longer term recovery projects in the region. With a goal to raise USD$1,000,000, you can do your part by donating here.

The Nepal Red Cross
The Red Cross released a statement that The Nepal Red Cross is still in action, however they’re in need of help after losing volunteers to the disaster and are struggling with supplies for those in need (around 1.6 million people have been displaced). Their website is currently down, however you can donate through the global page here.

Oxfam
Oxfam is aiming to raise at least $2 million to support their teams flying out to Nepal as well as surrounding areas affected such as Tibet to help assess the situation and provide assistance wherever they can, by preparing supplies and arranging for clean water, sanitation and emergency food. You can either donate online or make a bank transfer with their details here.

Save the Children
Save the Children, an international children’s charity, is collecting donations to further their mission of protecting and aiding children by creating a focused relief effort in Nepal.

Seva
Transforming compassion into action, this American charity is providing emergency relief efforts to help those in need. Donate to Seva here.

Shikshya Foundation Nepal
This relief organisation spearheaded by Nepalese-American designer Prabal Gurung is one that’s addressing the most immediate needs: medical support, search efforts, rescue expeditions, shelters, as well as urgent food and water supplies. Donate to the Shikshya Foundation Nepal here.

UNICEF
Donate $10 to UNICEF by texting ‘Nepal’ to 864233. Alternately, head over to UNICEF’s website here to make a donation, where $1,500 will provide 7 first aid kits to treat children, $2,850 supplies two families with drinking and washing water and $4,200 provides school-in-a-box kits to 80 children.

World Vision
World Vision, a fast acting children’s and disaster relief organisation, is raising funds to help distribute food, water, shelter and medical supplies to survivors. Donate to World Vision’s relief fund here.
