Top 3 new boutiques in Hong Kong – WOAW, 22 Degrees North and Tina’s Choice

3 March, 2014

Bored of the usual High Street stores? Sick of the same old labels everywhere? Well look no further for some indie boutique inspiration! We’ve rounded up three of the latest boutiques off the blocks in Hong Kong… ready, set, shop!

WOAW

WOAW is a new boutique in Central stocking all sorts of cool gadgets and lifestyle products – ladies, gents and even the kiddos will find something fun to play with here! Created by Kevin Poon (the brains behind urban fashion brand Clot), this two-floor lifestyle concept store stocks exclusive and hard-to-find products sourced from all over the world… meaning it’s all too easy to spend an entire afternoon browsing and coveting the lot!

Some of our fave items in-store include Impossible Project’s Polaroid range (which turn your standard iPhone pics into Polaroid snaps with a nifty little machine), Fuuvi’s Megane Camera (shaped like glasses so you can snap pictures with your eyes!), flavoured toothpicks from Daneson (Cinnamint tastes great) and cheeky stationary from Terrapin (how better to say I love you than with an F word?!). Plus, don’t forget to pick up one of Startup Vitamin’s motivation posters and “Get S**t Done”!

Of course, WOAW’s carefully-curated collection of sunglasses, shoes, watches, socks, bags and other accessories are mightily tempting too… we’ll be dressed from head to toe in no time! WOAW are the exclusive Hong Kong stockist for many of these brands, so don’t worry, the chances of you wearing the same thing as someone else are pretty low! This shop will definitely have you saying, “WOAW!” from your first step inside (cheesy but we couldn’t resist… sorry!).

22 Degrees North

If you need another reason to visit the dark side and Sham Shui Po itself (home to DIY materials, vintage cameras and bargain electronics) isn’t enough of a temptation, 22 Degrees North may well be calling your name! The latest art and cultural joint in the heart of Sham Shui Po, this four-storey pre-war historical building has been turned into an awesome space for young artists, designers and art lovers to gather, relax and browse at your own pace.

The ground floor stocks beautiful brands from local designers and international labels, including bags and leather-ware from Cupcake, Made in Eden and Doughnut JAPAN, and neat accessories from Carman Chan Jewellery, ADARGA and FABcessories.

Meanwhile, the second floor is a cosy hangout area for friends and customers to chill, sit back and just enjoy the atmosphere. With this airy loft-like space, 22 Degrees North certainly doesn’t feel like all the other boutiques in town and there’s no pressure to purchase either, yippee! Meanwhile, the third floor is a space for art and cultural exhibitions, which change periodically throughout the year. Find a chance to brave the Dark Side girls, as 22 Degrees North is definitely worth the trip!

Tina’s Choice

If you’re on the lookout for great accessories to brighten up your look and freshen up your wardrobe, then famous local stylist Tina Liu’s new store, Tina’s Choice, might just be your first port of call!

Tina Liu, dubbed ‘The First Lady of Looking Good’, had been styling stars for years before discovering the wonders of accessories. After studying design, travelling the globe in search of inspiration and hosting a super successful pop-up bazaar, Tina decided to open more permanent premises with her new Lee Gardens boutique. Personally handpicked and sourced from all over the world, Tina’s Choice stocks over 40 designers’ jewellery collections and brands that range from perfect everyday wear to statement conversation starters.

Taratata

Sassy’s top picks? We love French label Taratata’s colourful jewellery set with charms featuring miniature pasta and kitchenware (perfect for Hong Kong’s army of foodies!), Sarah’s Bags’ amazing punk-inspired clutches (check out the zip-lined clutch… which is literally lined with zippers!) and the chic and sleek chokers from Austria’s Sonja Bischur. Tina’s Choice is also a veritable vault for DIY inspiration – check out the funky bedazzled necklaces and colourful friendship bracelets by Art Wear Dimitriadis and the steel foil bags from Italian brand Zilla.

And ladies, this is just the tip of the iceberg! There are so many more gorgeous goodies to see in person – and the best part is that most of it is pretty wallet-friendly too (think three to four digits… nothing too eye-watering!). So remember these words of wisdom from Tina herself: “A woman does not wear earrings to keep her ears warm.” Time for another shopping spree, we think!
