From blockbuster movies to hit TV series, podcasts and more, here’s everything our team loved this year!
We’re still wrapping our heads around the fact that 2024 is coming to an end! We started the year with the second installation of Dune making waves in the box office, then got Zendaya’s raunchy side in Challengers and ended it with a bang thanks to Wicked. We’ve definitely had our fair share of pop culture consumption, but below are some of Team Sassy’s absolute favourites, from Martha giving us the creeps and bawling our eyes out at the cinema watching Inside Out 2 to belting out to Blank Space on our couch (Eras Tour on a budget).

Arcane Season 2
After a three-year gap, we sure had our reminders set for the steampunk action-adventure based off League of Legends. Our Editor, Anna says even if she’s not a gamer girl, she thoroughly enjoyed the series’ animation style, the depth of the characters and all the twists and turns in the storyline. While we went in expecting a once-and-for-all face-off between Jinx and Vi, Season 2’s focus is more on the bigger picture – a lot happens in every episode, so pace yourselves!

Baby Reindeer
Listen, we’re always in a true crime rabbit hole, but Baby Reindeer hit different. For one, what appalled us was Richard Gadd reenacting his own real-life trauma and two, Martha definitely got in our heads but we also couldn’t pull away from her, thinking “How far will she go?”. It’s safe to say at least half of Team Sassy binge-watched Baby Reindeer, while the other half went, “Is that a nature documentary?”.

Inside Out 2
We’re grown adults who get teary eyes for every Disney and Pixar film and let’s just say Inside Out 2 felt both like a hug from a close friend and a bitter realisation of how our negative thoughts can control us. With the introduction of jittery Anxiety, Envy who feels like a little sister, the nonchalant Ennui and of course, Embarrassment who we adore, the animation may feel light-hearted but the dialogues sure hit deep. Another one multiple of us loved, Inside Out 2 is one for all ages.

One Day
We weren’t quite prepared for much how One Day tugged our heartstrings (unless you’ve read the book or seen the movie adaptation). The on-screen chemistry between Emma and Dexter gives us all the feels, from hopeless romantic to shattered and sentimental — it sure is a ride. Coupled with beautiful cinematography and a sublime soundtrack, you’ll root for the mains despite all their differences. BTW, keep your tissues ready towards the final episodes…

Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In
Hong Kong cinema is back and 2024 can attest to that! Reminiscent of the city’s golden era, Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In is packed with action and as the story unfolds, it dives deeper into the values of brotherhood, loyalty and sacrifices. The movie’s success paved way for nostalgic Kowloon Walled City exhibitions, one that took over the arrival hall at the Hong Kong International Airport and now, a wider one at Airside with more immersive movie sets.

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour
I didn’t realise how much of a Swiftie I was until I went on Disney+ and played the Eras Tour. Even if you weren’t there in person, the documentary captures the magic and the energy of the almost-three-hour-long concert! Aside from singing Love Story word-for-word (and even kneeling on the ground!) to feeling the power of the Midnights album, I was also in awe of all the swift costume changes and incredible stage set-ups.
