Songs for Children and Dig for Victory, Friday 19th March

16 March, 2010

Songs for Children, Hong Kong’s number 1 Indie Night, is going to be a little different this time around. As well as featuring the band “The Bobby McGee’s” (described as “amazing” by Jarvis Cocker of Pulp fame, they will be hosting a fashion show with 20 pieces from the Dig for Victory label. Dig for Victory is the fledgling clothing label from Eleanor Callaghan who specialises in making one-off retro-inspired dresses and jackets from vintage fabric. Curtains. tablecloths, napkins and bedspreads are all plucked out of charity shops and brought back to life as classic prom frocks and cartoon print playsuits for girls who still love to play dress-up. Dig for Victory have shown at London Fashion Week and been worn by Indie stars, Bat for Lashes and Theoretical Girl. Accompanying the shoes will be vintage props from Select 18 and Shoes by Melissa.

If you haven’t headed to a Songs for Children night before, you’re in for a treat – described as “Indie music to dance to” and given an honorary mention by Time Out Hong Kong for Best New Club of 2009, founders Jane Blondel and Mike Mystery started the evening last year and have grown a solid following with their regular club nights. Songs for Children hope to bring some underground glamour to Hong Kong!
