Christmas is all about feeling festive and we all know that means much more than gifting and feasting. At Sassy HQ we like to celebrate Christmas by giving back to the community and highlighting charities that do too! That’s why we chose Feeding Hong Kong as our charity to highlight for December. Here’s the lowdown on this awesome cause, with helpful hints and tips on how you, your family and friends can help to feed Hong Kong not just for the winter season, but all year round!
So what does Feeding Hong Kong do?
If you’ve ever seen a deli at the end of the day stocked to the brim with awesome food and no customers, you know that food waste is a big issue in Hong Kong. Feeding Hong Kong solves the surplus food issue by providing a bridge between the food industry and hungry people. Their food bank redistributes high-quality food that would otherwise be thrown away to their network of partner charities, who ensure the food gets to those that need it most. We think their motto ‘fighting hunger, feeding hope’ sums up their work perfectly and we also love this nifty fact sheet that gives an overview on the hunger problem in HK. It definitely puts things into perspective!
How can you and your family help all year round?
Feeding Hong Kong distributes to a number of charity partners in Hong Kong so your efforts are multiplied if you volunteer, donate or join the team. You can volunteer as an individual or with a group and donate food, money, products or services. If you’re a PR whizz, photography guru or awesome at organising events, they can always use a hand with their fantastic initiatives too. In addition, food manufacturers, distributors and retailers can partner with Feeding Hong Kong and donate good food that would otherwise go to waste.
How can you help feed families in need this Christmas?
Chip in with the Festive Food Drive and pack some extra special food parcels or be a volunteer driver and deliver Santa Sack bundles in December by emailing [email protected]. And don’t forget to pick up the Feeding Hong Kong cookbook, a perfect gift for the foodie in your life. So make sure you get involved over the holiday season… it’s a great way to enjoy the real meaning of Christmas and spend some time doing good!
Waste not, want not is our motto for the silly season and we hope it will become yours too!
