Have fun with your walls

21 June, 2010

The one thing I don’t love about renting an apartment is that it is hard to truly make it your very own. I keep saying that I can’t wait to paint or throw up some wallpaper and the fact that I rent instead of own always holds me back. Since I think we will be staying in our apartment for at least another year I am now at a point where I am ready to take the plunge and do a bit of fun styling to my place in the form of wall decor. At the end of the day it can always be repainted back  or taken down when the time comes to move on to my next home. While a fresh coat of paint all over will make a huge difference I am leaning towards making a change to one of two walls which will create a statement. Since this is only a rental and not my permanent dream house now is the time to have some fun, let loose and do something unique and different – if it can easily be put back to its original condition that is!

Below are some walls that are definitely not run of the mill. Some may be easy to incorporate (we all probably have a spare dress to hang above our couch – love, love, love this idea!) while others may need a bit more commitment and courage (while it is so cool, are you really ready to live with spray paint graffiti art on your wall).  I am really liking the idea of using recycled paper in the last picture as wallpaper…very green and it is very suitable for a home with a guy and a girl!
