Bayfare Social Gastro-Market & Henry Meat Specialist

Opening this mid-November, Bayfare Social Gastro-Market is a gastronomic hub that will link Level Five of Rosewood Hong Kong and K11 Musea. Its namesake food market, Bayfare Social will also house a total of three new restaurants. Joining the now-open Holt’s Café, Legacy House, Butterfly Room and Asaya Kitchen at Rosewood Hong Kong, Bayfare Social and its various new restaurants will be an independent dining destination in its own right.

Bayfare Social is helmed by Chef de Cuisine Álvaro Ramos. The Spanish gastro-market will provide a casual setting for lunch, pre-dinner drinks and all-day light dining. The second restaurant to open this November, Henry will be a southern-style steak and smokehouse led by Chef Nathan Green. Completing the trio is, Chaat, an Indian restaurant celebrating tandoori dishes from Northern India that is set to open in early 2020.

Led by seasoned British Chef Nathan Green, Henry is the second of the three restaurants slated to open as part of Bayfare Social Gastro-Market. Fans of the now closed Rhoda in Sai Ying Pun will recognise the chef and his signature live-fire, nose-to-tail style of cooking. Celebrating the time-honoured American tradition of steak, Henry is a premium meat-focused restaurant, complete with leather banquettes, private dining room and a bar. Meat enthusiasts will also appreciate the various dry-aged produce stored and displayed in meat lockers. The restaurant will be connected to Henry’s butcher shop, where customers can purchase premium and traditional butchers’ shop products such as dry-aged heritage breeds, homemade terrines, sausages, bacon and more.

Anglophiles listen up, Fortnum and Mason Hong Kong is finally opening in Tsim Sha Tsui this month. Not only will the iconic store be bringing its luxe (and royal-approved) range of teas, biscuits and produce to Hong Kong, but it will also be opening an in-house restaurant. 181, named in honour of Fortnum’s address in London’s Piccadilly, is set to bring a range of much-loved British classics to Victoria Dockside. Featuring a bar area, dining room and sweeping views of Hong Kong island across the water, 181 will serve a specially curated, innovative and seasonal menu across lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. Diners can expect dishes such as scotch egg with black pudding and piccalilli; and Fortnum’s smoked salmon with soda bread to start; along with mains that include Glenarm Estate rib eye with béarnaise; Brixham Dover Sole à la meunière and more. Not forgetting Fortnums’ signature knickerbocker glory, and signature afternoon tea offerings, including fingers sandwiches, scones and cakes, all served with a pot of Fortnum’s tea or a glass of Fortnum’s Blanc de Blancs.

Associazione Chianti

There’s no slowing Black Sheep Restaurants down, as this autumn it’s adding to its fleet of HK restaurants with the opening of Associazione Chianti. Open now, the casual Wan Chai trattoria will offer the city a window into co-founders Asim and Chris’ Florence – a city that both consider a home-away-from-home. Diners can expect simple, soulful Tuscan dishes, with menu items including the star thick cut Florentine style steak, Bistecca alla Fiorentina ($1,198 for 3-4 people to share); and classic plates such as Pollo al Burro Omaggio a Sostanza ($218) – pan-fried chicken breast in butter. Guests looking for pasta won’t be disappointed with Associazione Chianti’s housemade offerings, including Garganelli Omaggio a Cammillo ($188) – pasta with a rich Chianti beef ragu; and tagliatelle with prosciutto, peas and mint ($188). As the name implies, a meal at Associazione Chianti is not complete without wine, with the restaurant offering a range of exclusive pours from the region.

Butter Cake Shop

Another new Black Sheep opening this month, Butter Cake Shop is answering the prayers of pastry fanatics across the city. Offering all of the famed group’s indulgent desserts in one place – including Motorino’s New York cheesecake, La Vache!’s lemon meringue tart and even Stazione Novella’s peanut butter puppy cake – the venture makes it even easier to celebration those celebrations with a slice of cake. Orders can be made online with free delivery on Hong Kong island (48-hours notice required), or pick-ups can be made at the store’s Soho location.

Dough Bros.

If you’re looking for a casual spot to head to come the weekend, we’ve found the perfect new opening for you. Now open in Happy Valley, Dough Bros. is the Little Brother of Wan Chai’s Three Blind Mice. Sure to satisfy comfort food cravings, the small shop is serving sourdough pizzas, fresh-filled doughnuts and plenty of beers – the ultimate trio, if you ask us. Pizzas and beer are available to take away, or there is a small outdoor seating area in front of the shop. Along with the signature pizzas, we can’t wait to get our hands on the housemade doughnuts, including fillings of jam, Nutella and custard ($38 each, or $99 for three).

Asaya Kitchen

Also new to Rosewood Hong Kong is Asaya Kitchen. Found on the sixth floor of the luxury hotel, the restaurant will showcase a menu of nutrient-rich dishes, with the kitchen helmed by Chef Renaud Marin (formerly of Cochin and Upper Modern Bistro). Taking a wellness approach to gastronomy, cooking methods will focus on maintaining the unique properties of food, with plates using raw, sprouted, pickled and fermented ingredients. With menus taking inspiration from Mediterranean and Japanese diets, a la carte breakfast and lunch menus will be available, while guests can expect the dinner menu to take on a more detailed and elevated dining approach. The Poolside Bar will also feature a broader selection of comfort food favourites, offering substantial plant-based substitutes for meat-lovers and vegans alike. The restaurant will also be committed to following a zero-waste policy.

Gontran Cherrier

Pastry fans, listen up! Globally-renowned pastry chef, Gontran Cherrier has opened his first boulangerie and restaurant in Hong Kong. As a brand reputed to be one of the top-ranked French bakeries in the world, the news that it would be coming to the city was met with much excitement, and now the doors are open. Known for combining the world of traditional French bakery with international flavours, carb lovers can’t miss the unique and high-quality pastry results – all of which are made using its own flour and butter imported from France. Found in the new K11 MUSEA in Tsim Sha Tsui, the new French bistro is open daily from 11am to 10pm, serving a menu that includes six categories – entrees, soup, pasta, risotto, meat and fish – throughout lunch, brunch and dinner. Signature dishes include French onion soup with a crunchy baguette ($78); tomato salad with creamy burrata ($128); and squid ink risotto and seafood ($120) – not to mention the standout pastry offerings, including eclairs (baked in four flavours!), lemon tart, pain au chocolat and both traditional and creative croissants.

POEM

Open now in LKF Tower, POEM is bringing a taste of Bali to Central. The sustainable menu showcases the bold, classic flavours of the island-nation using fresh, ingredient components and ethically-sourced meats. Sharing is recommended, with family-style plates on offer such as Wagyu cheek bao ($118), crispy suckling pig ($358), and soy-marinated eggplant ($138), along with a selection of traditional home-style satay skewers. During the week, diners can also enjoy a wholesome three-course lunch for just $188, along with a happy hour from Monday to Friday between 5pm and 8pm, and on Saturdays from 6pm to 8pm, with drinks specials starting at $40.

Uncle Momo

Set to open soon, Uncle Momo will be serving the delectable cuisine of Nepal. Momos are sure to be a main stay on the comfort food menu, but a glance at the new opening’s Instagram shows that Dan Dan Noodles will be amongst the food offerings. The restaurant will be available on Deliveroo only to start with, with deliveries available on the Southside of the island, and more areas to be added soon.
