Wan Chai at one stage may have been synonymous with a certain kind of bar, and is always our top pick for a cracking ladies night deal, but nowadays there’s so much more that this buzzing hub offers. With restaurants a plenty popping up in recent years, it’s one of our favourite spots on the island for dinner, so naturally, it’s also our top pick for drinks deals. From bars offering all-day happy hour prices, to drink and snack combos, cheap cocktails and hidden gems, here’s where you’ll find us drinking in Wan Chai

Wan Chai is known for its late-night bars and drinks deals, so an option that should always be on your radar is Amazonia. With live music every night and drinks prices from just $30 you can’t go wrong.

When: Daily, 4pm to 9pm
Where: 15 Luard Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong
How much: $35 for draught beers, $30 for house spirits and bottled beers

Back Bar

Not strictly a happy hour, but a great deal that helps to make Sunday’s that bit more bearable, head to Back Bar for its Bite Nite Sundays. With 50% off all cocktails, beers from $30 and bar bites from just $58, it’s hard to pass up. Head here for opening at 6pm and stay until the wee hours…

Bread & Beast

We can’t get enough of Bread & Beasts incredible sarnies, so it’s worth knowing that this casual spot offers up a happy hour, too! Pop by between 5pm and 7pm and enjoy half pints of craft beer for $45 and full pints for $60, with live music every Friday night, it’s the perfect place to start your weekend.

Ciacoe Italian Wine Bar

Tucked away on Moon Street, Ciacoe is a relaxed and cosy spot that’s perfect for an evening drink. Sit outside and enjoy the complimentary buffet of Italian finger food along with your drink.

When: Daily, 5:30pm to 8pm
Where: 1 Moon Street, Wan Chai, Hong Kong
How much: Free buffet of Italian finger food with different choices of wines, prosecco and cocktails.



Hidden down an easy-to-miss alley, Djibouti is a slightly lesser-known gem in the bustling Wan Chai. Head here for after work drinks until 8pm on weekdays, and on Saturdays, too! Half pints of beer start at just $30, with wines at $40 – though we recommend checking out the Sundown Cocktail menu – with a selection of tasty concoctions on offer at great prices.

When: Monday to Friday, 3pm to 8pm; Saturday, 5pm to 8pm
Where: 2 Landale Street, Wan Chai, Hong Kong
How much: Half pints of beers for $30, glass of wine $40, spirits $50, with selected cocktails also at discounted prices

Fishsteria Seafood Place

If you’re looking for a sophisticated start to your evening, Fishsteria is a great option. The bar area is intimate, with cool and quirky Hong Kong art adorning the walls, so head here between 5pm and 7pm and enjoy oysters for just $10 with any drink purchased.

La Piola

Nibbles with your drinks is a must, so if you’re looking for an after-work spot (or any day of the week, for that matter), La Piola is always a top choice of ours. The aperitivo spread is available daily between 5pm and 8pm, so grab a glass of rose, along with a plate of snacks and watch the world go by on the buzzing Johnston Road outside…

Le Garcon Saigon

A favourite dinner date spot of ours, Le Garcon Saigon is also a great option in the area for drinks! On weekdays (between 5pm and 7pm), enjoy glasses of wine here for $58 and bottles of beer for just $38. And don’t forget about its fab rose afternoons, available every Saturday and Sunday, with free-flow rosé between 3pm and 6pm for $198 per person.

Le Petit Saigon

Little sibling (and next door neighbor) to Le Garcon Saigon, Le Petit Saigon’s happy hour is not to be missed. One for the banh mi lovers (and the perfect start to a night out in Wanch), swing by between 5pm and 7pm and enjoy half a Banh Mi Thit sarnie and a bottle of Saigon Special beer for $58. We won’t judge you if you go back for round two…

Roundhouse – Chicken + Beer

Known in the city for its ever-changing selection of craft brews on tap, Roundhouse is the place for beer and chicken lovers – if the name didn’t already give that away. The happy hour runs every day of the week from the impressively early time of 12pm, so drop by and enjoy 10% off all drinks.

Stone Nullah Tavern

We’ve all heard of Stone Nullah’s infamous ‘Beat the Clock’ happy hour, and although this offer is no longer available, the bars current deal is still top in our books. For just $98, it’s all you can drink on standard drinks, along with all you can eat snacks (which includes the irresistible fried chicken!). Available every week night for two hours only, think of it as a new and improved ‘Beat the Clock’ and get your money’s worth!

When: Monday-Friday, 5pm to 7pm

Tai Lung Fung

Slightly hidden away, but still a busy spot in Wan Chai is Tai Lung Fung; a quirky bar that’s happy hour has us coming back time and time again. Running until 9pm every day, this spot comes in particularly useful if you’re waiting for a table at nearby restos, with buy-one-get-one beers and wines, along with a selection of cocktails and mixers at discounted prices.

Ted’s Lookout

Situated on one of our favourite Wan Chai streets, Ted’s Lookout is open all day for breakfast, lunch and dinner, but we often find ourselves here for happy hour! With the same people behind it as Djibouti, the happy hour here is a similar deal, with discounted beers, house spirits and cocktails available until 8pm daily.

When: Daily, 3pm to 8pm

A bar with a relaxed vibe, good food and decent priced drinks can be hard to come by in our city full of pricey rooftop bars, but Thaiwan ticks all the boxes with its laid-back atmosphere. The happy hour here offers up prints of craft beer from $58, cocktails starting at $78 and more. We also can’t resist coupling our drink with some of Thaiwan’s Taiwanese and Thai fusion food, with the likes of pork belly baos, dumplings and more on offer.

When: Daily, 5pm to 8pm
Where: 31 Ship Street, Wan Chai, Hong Kong
How much: Craft beers start at $58, with local breweries such as Moonzen featured on the taps, and classic cocktails priced at $78


The Optimist

This Northern-Spanish inspired restaurant is living up to its name with its Optimistic Hour drinks deal! Available daily from 3pm to 7:30pm, enjoy handcrafted cocktails, including the fruity Bramble ($48) and Gin on Ginger ($68), as well the bar’s signature selection of Spanish style gin and tonics (from $48). An array of bar food is also available to nibble on all from $48 including Ham or Mushroom croquettes, Eggplant fries and Padron Peppers.

The Pawn

When the weather warms up, we can’t resist al fresco drinks at The Pawn’s terrace, set above the busy Johnson Road. During happy hour, enjoy drinks at reduced prices, including spirits, mixers and beers for $60, wine for $65 and cocktails for $70.

When: Sunday to Thursday, 5pm to 7pm

Three Blind Mice

A favourite of ours in the area, and with a great happy hour is Three Blind Mice. Running from 5pm on weekdays and 12pm on weekends, it’s the place to know if you’re interested in some day drinking. Bottled beers are priced at $30, with prosecco, wine and spirits costing just $50 a glass, though we suggest opting for the Aperol Spritz pitcher ($190), perfect for sharing (or not).

When: Monday to Friday, 5pm to 7pm; Saturday and Sunday, 12pm to 6pm
Where: 35 Ship Street, Wan Chai, Hong Kong
How much: $30 for bottles of beer, $50 Prosecco, wine, spirits and mixers and pints, with Aperol Spritz and selected cocktails at $50 and $190 for Aperol Spritz pitcher (served in a recycled gin or tequila bottle)


Typhoon Bar

An option that’s got to be one of the cheapest happy hours in the city, let alone just in the area, is Typhoon Bar. With selected beers, wines and spirits starting at just $20, if you’re purse strings are feeling tight, but you’re not ready to give up on your social calendar, this is where to head!

When: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, from 8:30pm until close
