Wan Chai is a bit of melting pot, with everything from late-night karaoke bars and ladies night deals, to wine bars, aperitivo and rooftop drinks on offer, making it one of the most popular spots on Hong Kong island for a drink. Amazonia
Wan Chai is known for its late-night bars and drinks deals, so an option that should always be on your radar is Amazonia. With live music every night and drinks prices from just $30 you can’t go wrong.
When: Daily, 4pm to 9pm

How much: $35 for draught beers, $30 for house spirits and bottled beers
Back Bar
Not strictly a happy hour, but a great deal that helps to make the end of the weekend that bit more bearable, head to Back Bar for its Bite Nite Sundays. With 50% off all cocktails, beers from $30 and bar bites from just $38, it’s hard to pass up. Head here for opening at 6pm and stay until the wee hours.

Ciacoe Italian Wine Bar
Tucked away on Moon Street, Ciacoe is a relaxed and cosy spot that’s perfect for an evening drink. Sit outside and enjoy the complimentary buffet of Italian finger food along with your drink.

FRANCIS
If you’ve got a mid-week day off, or manage to leave the office early, we recommend making a beeline for FRANCIS and enjoying a selection of drinks for just $50. The weekday happy hour runs from 3pm to 5:30pm and includes spritz, red, white, sparkling and rosé wines, and the best bit is that once happy hour is over, you can stick around for some delicious Middle Eastern fare.

Fini’s
Recently rebranded as FINI’s, the old Stone Nullah Tavern location still offers up a great happy hour deal. For just $108, get your hands on free-flow Asahi beer, along with all you can eat chicken wings and French fries, available every week night from 5pm to 7pm.

KONG by Bread & Beast
We can’t get enough of Bread & Beast’s incredible sarnies during the day time, and its new evening concept KONG offers up a great happy hour. Pop by between 5pm and 7:30pm from Monday through Saturday and enjoy half pints of Asahi beer for $45 and full pints for $55, along with either Gweilo bottles or Heroes beer cans for $55. Not a beer fan? There are also house wines priced at $55 and cocktails up for grabs for just $45! Bourbon ginger highball, anyone?

La Piola
Nibbles with your drinks is a must, so if you’re looking for a weekday drinking spot (or any day of the week, for that matter), La Piola is always a top choice of ours. The aperitivo spread is available daily between 5pm and 8pm, so grab a glass of rosé, along with a plate of snacks and watch the world go by on buzzing Johnston Road outside.

Le Garcon Saigon
A favourite dinner spot of ours, Le Garcon Saigon is also a great option in the area for drinks! On weekdays (between 5pm and 7pm), enjoy glasses of wine for $58, bottles of beer for just $38, and a special weekly cocktail for $68.
And don’t forget about its weekend happy hour, available every Saturday and Sunday, and featuring free-flow house wines and rosé for just $198 per person between 3pm and 6pm.

Little sibling (and next door neighbour) to Le Garcon Saigon, Le Petit Saigon’s happy hour is not to be missed. One for the banh mi lovers (and the perfect start to a night out in Wanchai), swing by between 5pm and 8pm and enjoy half a Banh Mi Thit sarnie and a bottle of Saigon Special beer for $58. We won’t judge you if you go back for round two.

Madame Ching
For a weekday happy hour that’s hard to beat, head to Madame Ching for cocktails, beers, wines and spirits starting at just $48. We love the sound of the Dragon Boat ($48), made with sake, umeshu, lime juice, grapefruit bitter and dragon fruit, or opt for a classic spritz ($58). The deal also includes a range of snacks, including sesame prawn toast, General Son’s chicken and more (all $68), so you won’t be going hungry.

Morty’s
Serving up a menu of NYC deli-style favourites, Morty’s is one of the only places in the city you can get yourself an authentic Reuben sandwich, so why not pair the hearty fare with a cold one? Daily, between 3pm and 8pm, wines and draft craft beers start at just $55.

In our expensive city, drinks for a mere for $30 are hard to come by, but that’s exactly what you’ll find at this Star Street bar and restaurant! During its weekday happy hour, Oolaa Petit offers up Aperol Spritz, prosecco and bottles of Asahi beer for just $30.

Plaza Mayor
Found just around the corner from Ciacoe Italian Wine Bar is Plaza Mayor, a Spanish-style tapas bar serving up a range of drinks at great prices. Happy hour here runs all day long, from 11am to 11pm and includes bottled beers for $25 and G&Ts for $60.

Pinot Duck
Pinot Duck does exactly what it says on the tin, serving up a menu of Peking Duck and wine. Head here for its all-day happy hour which runs Monday to Thursday, and offers up buy-one-get-one-free glasses of wines and cocktails. White and red wines on offer range between $80 and $110 per glass, and cocktails are priced at $90. Although not included in the happy hour, Pinot Duck also offers local brew, Moonzen, on tap for just $70 per 500ml.

Tai Lung Fung
Tucked away, but still a busy spot in Wan Chai is Tai Lung Fung; a quirky bar thats happy hour has us coming back time and time again. Running until 9pm every day, this spot comes in particularly useful if you’re waiting for a table at nearby restaurants, with buy-one-get-one beers and wines, along with a selection of cocktails and mixers at discounted prices.

Ted’s Lookout
Situated on one of our favourite Wan Chai streets, Ted’s Lookout is always a popular choice come happy hour. The deal here includes discounted beers, house spirits and select cocktails available until 8pm daily.

Thaiwan
A bar with a relaxed vibe, good food and decent priced drinks can be hard to come by in our city full of pricey rooftop bars, but Thaiwan ticks all the boxes with its laid-back atmosphere. The happy hour here offers up pints of draft beer from $58, cocktails starting at $78 and more. We also can’t resist coupling our drink with some of Thaiwan’s Taiwanese and Thai fusion food, with the likes of pork belly baos, dumplings and more on offer.

The Optimist
This Northern-Spanish inspired restaurant is living up to its name with its Optimistic Hour drinks deal! Available daily from 3pm to 7:30pm, enjoy handcrafted cocktails, including the fruity Bramble ($48) and Gin on Ginger ($68), as well the bar’s signature selection of Spanish style gin and tonics (from $48). An array of bar food is also available to nibble on from $48, including Ham or Mushroom croquettes, Eggplant fries and Padron Peppers.

The Pawn Botanicals Bar
When the weather warms up, we can’t resist al fresco drinks on The Pawn’s terrace, set above the busy Johnston Road. During happy hour, which runs Sunday to Thursday from 5pm to 7pm, choose between a selection of wines, beers and spirits with prices starting at $60.

Three Blind Mice
A favourite spot of ours in the area, and one that offers a great happy hour is Three Blind Mice. Running from 5:30pm on weekdays, all beers are priced at $50, with prosecco and wine costing just $60 a glass. Though we suggest opting for the Aperol Spritz ($60), or an espresso or earl grey lemon martini ($70).
