The Most Unique Dining Experiences in Hong Kong

Inclusive Dining Experience

Ready to order your dishes in sign language? Friends Italian Restaurant is run by staff who are deaf or have hearing impairments so you’re taught to communicate a few key phrases in basic Hong Kong sign language! The relaxed Italian café-meets-bistro is all about promoting social integration for people with disabilities. Friends believes that everyone is unique and has different talents to bring to the table (pun intended!). I was recently here to support a SENsational Consultancy event, so I can fully vouch for the quality of service and the thoughtful staff. Whether you’re heading out for a Sunday meal with the family, or organising a corporate event, this spot proves that we all have so much to learn about diversity and inclusion.

Sampan Boat Dining Experience

Virginia from Humid with a Chance of Fishballs runs food tours, showcasing hidden gems of Hong Kong. This sampan boat excursion takes dining to a whole new level. Her motto is to offer a “lil’ slice of Asia”, so you can expect an authentic, old Hong Kong take featuring the freshest seafood in town. Think: fresh prawns, clams in black bean sauce, razor clam with enoki mushrooms, typhoon shelter crabs, Chinese kale, noodles with crab meat, and Chinese wine. If you’re looking for an evening off-the-beaten-path, full of tradition, history, seafood, and Chinese culture, you’ve found your next adventure…

Glamping and Barbeque Experience

Glamping, barbequing and organic farming? Sounds like a solid deal to us. We can’t get over the awesome camping accommodation options! From the igloo-like Aecosphere domes, to the family-size caravan, to the themed “fantasy” rooms, the atmosphere here is unlike anything we’ve experienced in Hong Kong. Though the focus is more on the place than the food, every caravan is equipped with a gas-fired stove, and there are BBQ pits available on site. There’s also the option to get pre-ordered meals, and the entire farm is filled with fresh produce.

Crazy Golf and Tex-Mex Dining

Strokes is Hong Kong’s only premier Crazy Golf and Lifestyle club. With mini golf, a retro-diner restaurant and a bar complete with mixologists and baristas, this is a place that really will keep everyone on their toes. The massive event space and the brightly lit lounge is a fun-for-all space, catering to both walk-ins and large group bookings. Before or after food, the 45-minute round of Crazy Golf is worth checking out – the loops, tunnels, and ball jumps are harder than they look!

Market-to-Table Dining Experience

BiteUnite’s new concept is all about making sure you’re not just eating like a local, but cooking like one too! These market-to-table cooking classes start with a visit to the overflowing Wan Chai wet market, where you’re guaranteed to discover local produce and the freshest ingredients. Once you’ve selected everything for the class, the experts take you back to the BiteUnite kitchen to transform the ingredients into delicious Cantonese dishes. After enjoying a traditional Chinese meal, you get the recipes to take home with you. Plus, the mini-master-chefs of the family are encouraged to get involved!

Indoor Fishing and Barbequing Experience

HA Cube is Hong Kong’s first (and only) indoor fishing farm. Roughly translated as “Prawn Cube”, you’ll find shrimps, clams, lobsters and everything else you could possibly hope to spot in the sea. The farm then lets you barbecue your catch straightaway. And don’t worry about coming prepared, the venue provides everything from start to finish (including fishing rods and BBQ stations). There’s also a dart machine and a board game area for you to spend time at in between catching your meal.

Crazy Car Cafe Dining Experience

Crazy Car Cafe is completely true to its name. This race car-themed restaurant focuses more on the sprawling track than the food – though it does serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus drinks and coffee throughout the day. The cars are available to rent in small groups, and you can also book out the space for birthdays and events.

PlateCulture is a platform that lets you dine at a local host’s home. No matter what your cuisine or location preference, there really is something for everyone. Take your pick between anything from Vietnamese to Mediterranean to Polish – and conveniently check out the menu, price, and individual reviews before you book. The hosts are accommodating and incredibly passionate about their dishes, so you can be sure that food is the focus point of the evening.
