Mimosas To Martinis: Where To Drink In Hong Kong This February 2019

6 February, 2019

From the latest bar openings, to happy hours, new drinks menus and more, cheers to these drink specials in the 852!

We made it through Dry January, and with Chinese New Year in full swing, we’re sure the extra few days off work have been food and drink filled. Looking for something new in the city? We’re letting you know the latest bar openings, along with the newest cocktails and drinks to try now. And with Valentine’s Day only a week away, there are even a couple of “love potions” to try out this month, along with a few of our favourite happy hours in the city.

New Openings

Draft Land

We’ve all had beer on tap, but cocktails? Newly opened in the heart of Wyndham Street, Draft Land is Hong Kong’s first “cocktails on tap” bar concept. Using its state-of-the-art Draft System, the cocktails are made by the distillery system injecting nitrogen or carbon dioxide into beverages to quickly and efficiently create high quality, sustainable and affordable specialty cocktails. Starting at $90 per cocktail and $70 for spirit-free options, the team has created more than 40 different cocktail flavours, which will be available on a rotational basis on the 24 taps. Signature drinks include the Soju Martini ($120), which incorporates flavours of soju, sherry and pandan, but we also love the sound of the Rum Stout ($100), which consists of dark rum, black tea, pandan and Porter beer. Draft Land is also serving up delicious and fuss-free bites, with the menu featuring Parmesan Tornado Fries ($60), Mini Corn Dogs ($70) and  Char-Siu Pork Neck ($100).

Whisky & Words

Whisky lovers, you’re going to want to know about Hong Kong’s latest speakeasy-style bar. The name of the game here is whisky, with a range of 300 different varieties available, though the bar also serves bespoke cocktails, using all kind of spirits. Head here daily (from 5pm to 8pm), and enjoy the bar’s happy hour, with whisky’s priced at $60, Sapporo beer for $40 and cocktails such as the Coffee Old Fashioned, Bombay Manhattan and Whisky & Word Negroni priced at $80.

New Menus & Drinks

Sugar (Bar.Deck.Lounge)

Dry Jan may be over, but if you’re wanting to continue going alcohol-free, head to Sugar in Tai Koo’s EAST hotel, and try out its new specially created cocktails. Using Seedlip, (the world’s first non-alcoholic distilled spirits), the bar’s mixologists have created a collection of sophisticated (and booze free!) drinks – including the Waking Cosmo, Seedlip Spritz, Garden Sour, 108 Fizz, Seedlip & Tonic, and Berry Grove. We especially like the sound of the Berry grove, with Seedlip Grove 42, peach and lime juice, orange bitters and aromatic tonic – perfect to enjoy on Sugar’s outdoor terrace when the sun shines.

With love in the air this month, Tokyolima Manager Allison Acuna has concocted a brand new drink. For His Names Sake ($120) has been specially created for Valentine’s Day and features a lilac cocktail shaken up with butterfly pea flower, rose liqueur and gummy hearts.

The Dispensary

Another V-Day drink can be found at The Dispensary this month. If you’re skipping dinner, but still want to impress, opt for the Sultry Kiss cocktail ($188), which is crafted with Ocho Blanco Tequila infused with figs, Grand Marnier and lime juice, and includes four canapes for sharing.

If you’re looking for an extra special cocktail to impress that special someone this month, then head to Duddell’s, which is serving up The Hearts In ($160). Made with homemade rhubarb and hibiscus gelato, rose petal, thyme and champagne, it’s sure to be the perfect tipple to start (or finish!) your Valentine’s date night.

KYTALY mimosas to martinis

Designed to complement its award-winning pizzas and fresh, Mediterranean flavours, KYTALY has just launched a brand-new cocktail programme. Spearheaded by bar manager, Giancarlo Mancino, the restaurant has crafted 10 new cocktails for diners to enjoy, with highlights including the Martiniano, a sweet concoction of London Dry Gin, Mancino Vermouth, Secco, lemon oil and Japanese wakamomo peaches. For a uniquely savoury concotion, the Tifata is made with tomato water, basil, vodka, caper dust and cherry tomato candy, or for a bubbly treat, guests can sip on the Bellissimo, infused with the soft flavours of peach, lavender and Prosecco (all priced at $108). To enhance your pizza and drinks, from Wednesdays to Saturdays (from 8pm to 11pm) the restaurant will now also feature live music on its outdoor terrace.

We love this relaxed Peel Street izakaya, and its happy hour prices have us going back time and time again. Happening daily from 3pm to 8pm, swing by and enjoy bottled beers for $30, and red and white wine, bubbles and house spirits from just $35.

Another Japanese-inspired bar that has caught out attention for its great drinks deal is OZU. Found on Hollywood Road, this ever-buzzing bar offers up not only a selection of sakes, beers, wines and spirits (we love the huge G&Ts!) for just $50, but the happy hour menu also features a variety of Japanese style barbecue bites, such as grilled eggplant, chicken and pork belly skewers, a tempura bucket and deep fried Japanese dumplings.
