Calling all Mo Bros and Mo Sistas!
Our fathers, partners, brothers and friends face a health crisis that isn’t being talked about. Men are dying too young and we can’t afford to stay silent.
You may have heard of Movember, or maybe you’ve just suddenly seen lots of guys roaming about with ‘taches, but many people are still unaware of the whole story behind The Movember Foundation. They do incredible work that addresses some of the biggest health issues faced by men. The Movember Foundation is the only charity which tackles men’s health on a global scale, year round, taking on issues such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention. They aim to change the face of men’s health, to encourage everyone to talk about the important stuff and to have a good time while they’re at it.
They may be iconised by the moustache, but this foundation has so much more to it then just facial hair!
What is Movember?
The Movember Foundation faces men’s health issues all year, but during the month of November, the campaign really gets into gear, with the annual “Movember”. The Foundation encourages Mo Bro’s and Mo Sista’s to get involved in any way they can throughout November. Guys can grow and groom their ‘taches for 30 days and get sponsored to do so. Read more about The Movember Foundation’s story, from 2003 to now, here.
What do they do?
In 13 years The Movember Foundation has funded more than 1,200 men’s health projects around the world; and by 2030 they aim to reduce the number of men dying prematurely by 25%. In 2015, Movember Hong Kong raised $2,898,898; with a total of 1,645 participants registered… talk about impressive!
The 2016 campaign is expected to be larger, in terms of both participants and money raised. The funds raised go towards delivering innovative, breakthrough research and support programs, which help men to live happier, healthier and longer lives.
How can you help?
For 30 days, get your guy friends to “Grow their Mos” and raise funds for men’s health! Help stop men dying too young and get them to sign up here (it’s not too late!). And you “don’t have to be a man to care about men’s health” either – Sassy Girls can get involved and take part in the Move Challenge, by challenging yourself physically this month and raising funds for the incredible cause whilst you’re at it. Alternatively, show your support by hosting a Movember event; get people together, have a good time and raise some money.
This year Beef & Liberty and Grana are collaborating with Movember to organise an End of Mo’ Party on Wednesday, 30 November to celebrate the Mo Bros, their beards, health progress and to judge the best Mo Bro of 2016! Simply head over to LKF to celebrate the end of the Mo’s and to raise more funds for the Foundation. For $250 a ticket, they are offering up free-flow booze and food, as well as live DJs! Throughout November, Beef & Liberty will also be donating $5 from every sale of the Burger Special and Young Master Ales to the Foundation, so get down and order a burger ‘n’ beer in the name of charity!
Remember, you can always donate to The Movember Foundation directly, or find a person to donate to during Movember here.
