Guest Blogger Denise gives us the inside scoop on her favourite spots to shop in Causeway Bay. Denise (who works in Corporate Communications for a fashion brand) says “there are so many hidden gems in Causeway Bay, sometimes you just need to step out of your comfort zone and explore a bit”. Here’s hoping that her article inspires you to check out a store or two in an unexplored area of Hong Kong this week!
For those of you who think Hong Kong lacks affordable yet wearable fashion, besides the familiar H&M, Zara and Club Monaco, think again. After receiving a fair share of complaints from girlfriends on this very topic, this is my perfect opportunity to put such nonsense to bed.
Here are some of my personal picks on cool, edgy and affordable fashion (and yes it’s outside of Central).
**Note: This shop list is not exactly ground breaking, but hope this will give you a different perspective on how to fill up that extra space in your closet.
This Japanese brand has built a cult following among hipsters and celebrities in Japan. Most well-known for their denim, which are designed to fit and accentuate Asian women’s curves, the style of this label is casual chic with vintage references and a laid-back Californian attitude. moussy is great for girls who like to “mix n’ match” fashion. Personal favorites include distressed denim shorts and loose-fitted tunics/tees.
For a more polished look, pop over next door to moussy’s sister label BLACK by moussy for casual knitwear, soft jackets and tapered trousers. Great for work!

Similar to Island Beverly Centre, this 2-storey shopping mall is jam-packed with cute little boutiques where you can find just about any fashion essentials you ever need. My personal favorite is a tiny shoe shop called Yellow, located on the 1F, where cheap and cheerful flat sandals and cute booties await. Venture up to the top floor and check out a row of small boutiques sprinkled with designer dresses with “cut tags”. If you are not familiar with this term, they are usually samples or merchandise from factories in China (don’t ask how/why). You can easily get your hands on great cocktail dresses and work outfits from labels like Vanessa Bruno, BCBG, Philip Lim 3.1, DVF, Marni and even Lanvin for a fraction of retail price!!

While we’re in the Sogo area, do check out IZZUE, a local Hong Kong brand by fashion giant I.T Group. The style is casual chic, with some rock/grunge influences. Their edgy tailored blazers are fantastic for both work and play. Don’t forget to check out their men’s collection too!

Most of you may know Paterson Street – an area dotted with small boutiques perfect for the fashion daring individual. Wander around the area for brands like Isabel Marant, A.P.C, Tsumori Chisato and multi-brand select stores D-mop and I.T. Keep an eye out for SLY, from the same retail group (Baroque Japan Limited) as the aforementioned moussy. The brand is fun-loving, rock-glam and a bit naughty (check out their print tees). You can find cute frocks and color-popping maxi dresses at a reasonable price – perfect for beating the heat in Hong Kong!
