I’m loving all the cool shift dresses that are popping up everywhere for Spring… It’s such a cool laid-back look and a refreshing change from all the super-tight looks of the last few seasons. The great thing with shifts is they can really be dressed up or down as with flats or gladiator sandals they are cute for laid-back sunny days, but paired with wedges or chunky platforms (stilettos are too try-hard for this look) you are ready for a night out. I’m always drawn to a similar palette of soft, cool colours (Maura can walk into any store and point to the rack of clothes I’ll like!) so these shifts from Asos are on my wish-list. Entering more into the smock than shift territory, this Topshop apricot long-sleeved dress would work great for the seventies-inspired look that’s so big for summer. Paired with tan accessories and wavy beachy hair, it’s just such a shame that basically anything with sleeves is a no-go for Hong Kong from June through October! I’m tempted anyway… It might be because it’s in one of our new Sassy Mama colours!

Hester is originally from the incredibly glamorous city of Bristol, in England. Determined to escape her West-Country roots (though a love of good scrumpy should never be lost) she packed off for uni at Oxford to waste several years on a degree in Philosophy and never looked back… Following a stint in Switzerland eating too much fondue and meeting her future husband, they jumped at the chance to follow their dream of heading to Asia, and landed in Hong Kong in 2008. Along with partners-in-crime and fellow Tai-Tais, Maura Thompson and Natalie Firestone, she founded Sassy in 2009 and then Sassy Mama in 2011 after the birth of her daughter Elodie. Number 2 daughter Margot arrived in August 2012 and then two months later it was off to her new home in Singapore with tinies in tow. Hester is discovering the Lion City one shophouse at a time with a love for seeking out Singapore’s hidden secrets!
