Cali-Mex’s second flagship location doesn’t disappoint, with tabletop beer taps, and a gin and rye bar.
Cali-Mex is always on our go-to list when we are craving a Mexican fix and ever since it opened its second flagship Hong Kong location in Sai Ying Pun last year, we’ve been regulars. We love the neighbourhood feel to this restaurant and are big fans of its Brooklyn-inspired bar “Williamsburg”, which specialises in small batch gins and ryes. With around 60 different types to choose from, it may take you a while to decide which is the one for you. Of course, who says you have to stick to just one? The dimly-lit bar is kitted out with dark wood and leather upholstery, evoking a prohibition-era feel which helps up its cool factor.
We think this Cali-Mex would be a perfect venue for parties, with each of its booths having a beer and white wine tap at the table. What’s not to love about that? The novelty of pouring our own pints and sauvignon blanc never grows old. But be warned, it may make you linger longer over your meal.
The menu has all the favourites you’d expect (think burritos, tacos, enchiladas and quesadillas). We like that you can choose to swap out the chicken, beef or pork for Impossible meat, too. You can also personalise your meal by selecting your own spice level (mild, medium or hot), and we always add the homemade guacamole for an extra $20. We can never resist the Mexican choices, but don’t overlook the other stars on the menu. We’re talking about the numerous grill items such as rib eye steaks, baby back ribs, Atlantic grilled salmon and Cali-Mex surf and turf. Did we mention they also do catering? Another great way to feed our Mexican addiction. It’s well worth a visit next time you’re in the hood.
