EQ:IQ Spring/Summer 2012 – girlie hues and floaty frocks

19 April, 2012

Central/Central recently opened its doors to showcase all that is exceptional about EQ:IQ. While models donned in the brand’s wares primped and preened, I took a closer look at what hung on the garment racks… and let me tell you that this line epitomises all that Hong Kong ladies cry out for!

Flowy spring dresses? Check! Artistic patterns? Check! Powerful leathers? Check! Clothing that transitions from day to night, weekday to weekend? Check and Check! There are even a few pieces that would make a mother to be melt!

The line is equal parts whimsy and sophistication. The watercolor prints blend beautifully with the soft blush tones and balance well with the tougher touches of leather present in the collection.

First, let’s take a look at the soft spring styles. Now that the sun has come out (finally!!!) we can revel in all our colour-loving glory! This floral print dress would look so cute over a growing baby bump (or that perpetual Hong Kong hazard… the food baby belly!) with a thin white belt sitting snugly over the top.

My kindergarten days are rushing back to the front of my mind when I see this striped dress. It’s like a wearable Crayola box!  Something tells me that this watercolour skirt would find its way into my weekly wardrobe easily. This could be the most wearable piece as you can wear it with cute flats and a button-up for the day or put a gorgeous silk blouse and killer heels on for evening. Even if you don’t typically wear colour, this piece would ease you into it with the classic shape and beautiful tailoring.

Who says that you can’t wear skins in spring? This leather detailing shows us just how easy it is to pull off.  Plus, if the spring and fall fashion weeks taught us anything, it’s that sleeve detailing is HUGE! The leather sleeve jacket would be an amazing piece for spring and you could pull it back out of the closet come November when the temps dip again.

Personal fave: The leather shorts suit! It’s like what Trinity would wear in the Matrix if they did a 2012 edition!  The cropped sleeve is fantastic on the leather blazer (great fit for my freakishly long arms) and the length of the shorts is very ladylike without venturing into lady of the evening territory!

Here are a few other completely wearable and completely beautiful items on offer. I love the dresses as these would take you from the office to the after dinner scene seamlessly. And of course, if you don’t already own a blazer then go get one of these! It is the easiest way to pull a look together and make you look polished and stylish in an instant! This light pink one is so sweet and would look spectacular paired with a soft grey colour!

Lastly, I leave you with shoes. EQ:IQ offers a stunning range of shoes to skip you into spring! I am moderately obsessed with the brown woven Beck platform wedge (above left, $2200). How adorable would these be with some rolled up trousers?

There are also several pairs of flats that could handle these uneven HK streets with ease. I always stock up on flats around this time of year because I know, no matter how hard I try, they will be eaten by the stairs of HK!

There you have it! If your wardrobe is still looking a bit too grey then liven it up with some girly hues and floaty frocks! You can balance your emotional quotient, (EQ) and your intelligence quotient (IQ) with the varied assortment of apparel to express all that you are and all that you want to be! EQ:IQ is your one stop-shop for spring!
