After a long day at work, who has the time to glam up for a night out from scratch? Stock your makeup bag with these essentials to transform your look from desk to dinner in four easy steps.
IN YOUR MAKEUP BAG:
- Cream concealer
- Bright lipstick
- All-purpose face palette (We recommend Lancome Blush Subtil Palette for their shimmery blush, bronzer and highlighter trio)
- Black liquid eyeliner
- Black lengthening mascara
Step 1: Touching Base
Forget the foundation and use your work makeup as the base for your dinner look. A quick spritz of Evian Water Facial Spray Atomizer will refresh your complexion and erase any day-old cakey-ness. For a 30 second face lift, choose a cream concealer (try Shiseido Stick Foundation for blendable, full coverage) one shade lighter than your skin tone and dab onto the four magic areas: under your brow bone, inner corner of your eyes, under your eyes and the sides of your nose.
Step 2: Colour Me Pretty
First, sweep highlighter from the tops of your cheekbones to your temples for a subtle glow. If you’re in a real hurry, a daring red or fuchsia lipstick (check out Top 10 Red lipsticks here) can complete your look here and now. For fast contouring, apply bronzer in the shape of a “3” on both sides of your face: from your temples down to the hollows of your cheeks, and from there to your jaw line. If you’re on third-date status, skip the lip and go for a dramatic eye – you know why.
Step 3: Bring the Drama
Use your highlighter on your eyelids to give is some shimmer. Apply your black liquid eyeliner in a clean line at the base of your lashes and give the end a flick for a quick cat eye. Finish off with some mascara (we love YSL Babydoll Mascara in Black for a false lash effect without the hassle). For a girl’s night out, try swapping your basic black liner for a glitter liner like Urban Decay Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner in Baked.
Step 4: Good Hair
Use a light-hold styling product in the morning, like Bumble & Bumble Does It All Styling Spray, and put your hair up in a messy bun for the office. Before heading out for dinner, shake it out for sexy curls.
About the blogger
Born in Hong Kong, raised in Toronto, and educated in Montreal, I’m now back in my hometown and taking it by storm. Under my belt are editorial stints in ELLE Canada’s beauty department and Beauty RSVP magazine. When I’m not scouting the latest beauty buzz, I’m out shopping in Causeway, eating in Soho, sipping on G&Ts at Socialito and dancing with my girlfriends at Rula Bula – in that order.
