I have never really been a spa girl. Or a mani/pedi girl. Or a salon girl. I remember the last time I got a manicure, I couldn’t sit still long enough for my nails to dry, so of course they got ruined, which meant that I had to go back and ask the oh-so-patient girl to fix it. Twice. I like to think that I learnt my lesson about my absolute inability to sit still.
But then I went to Spa by MTM to try their new two-hour Genki Series Zen Happiness Experience II treatment… and I absolutely loved it! My treatment was in one of their spa suites, complete with a tub with massage jets (I kept eyeing it throughout the spa introduction). MTM decided that I should be in the Energy Room… I guess I looked tired? I blame the HK energy-sapping heat!
Things started off with a footbath before a full-on body massage (a natural detoxification massage, then a lymphatic drainage one combined with elements of traditional Chinese Ayurveda massage). As anyone in the office can attest, I love wearing high heels… Heels are necessary to my physical wellbeing. So after a lifetime in heels, the leg massage my therapist gave me at the very beginning was absolute heaven. I drifted off to my happy place and I could practically hear my legs singing out in joy.
Then, since I had so many knots in my shoulders, my therapist decided to literally press the knots out of me in the massage. I’m not going to lie… it hurt. This time, I was not in my happy place. But I figured that it must only hurt because there was something wrong with my muscles in the first place, so I made it through. Sure enough, Round Two (!) was much less painful; something must have worked because my shoulders feel much more relaxed now!
The ginger wrap that came next was just what the doctor ordered. It was so warm and soothing, I could practically feel my muscles letting go of the tension. This is supposed to relieve bloated-ness, but since I wasn’t feeling particularly bloated on that day to begin with, I settled very happily for pure simple relaxation instead!
My Zen was occasionally disturbed by the slamming of doors and hearing people’s conversations from outside (thin walls?), plus the fact that I kept seeing lots of unnerving shadowy outlines walking past (the downside of the spa’s contemporary white décor!), but overall I felt super relaxed and soothed, just as MTM assured I would be.
One last Sassy tip… If you have naturally dry skin like me, just take a short shower before the treatment then a quick rinse and pat dry after. You don’t really need to use soap after the treatment. Result: super soft skin for the rest of the day!
