WEEKENDER: Taco Takedown at Brickhouse, secret 1920s speakeasy, A Day with Fé pop-up shop & more

16 August, 2013
Typhoon Utor hit us pretty hard this week (can we have a T8 day every week please?!), but don’t let the rain wash away all the fun! We’ve lined up another fab five events to brighten up your day, come rain or shine…

Work hard… shop harder!
We all know how important it is for our clothes to be as comfy as they are stylish, especially in hot and humid Hong Kong. So when we got news that local label A Day with Fé has joined forces with Sassy Award Winner Polkadot Boutique for a special pop-up shop, we couldn’t wait to get shopping! Whilst you can get your hands on Fé’s Work & Play line of dresses and mix n’ match separates at Polkadot throughout the whole month, this one-day event is your only chance to shop her yoga-inspired Sweat line, which features tops, leggings and wraps that are moisture-wicking and perfect for us girls on the go! Enjoy some healthy nibbles and green juice while you embark on that much-needed retail therapy.

When: 21 August, 12-7pm
Where: Polkadot Boutique, 2/F, 29 Hollywood Road, Central, Hong Kong
How much: Free entry

Take down the heat
A perfect chill-out spot is absolutely crucial in summer – and if you haven’t been to Brickhouse for amazing Mexican food, good cocktails and a great atmosphere yet, where have you been?! Just in case you needed an extra incentive to pop by, Brickhouse are hosting a Taco Takedown challenge three days a week, where you’ll get a free Bohemia beer for every taco you eat in an hour. Bring some friends and take on the challenge – just how many beers can you chug down and still feel ready for work the next morning?

When: Mondays to Wednesdays, 11pm-12am
Where: Brickhouse, G/F, 20A D’Aguilar Street, Lan Kwai Fong, Central, Hong Kong
How much: Depends on how much you can eat!

That summer glow
Has your busy summer schedule and HK’s ever-changing weather got you and your skin down? Well, it’s time to have a break and treat yourself to some pampering! French spa Ann Jema and scrummy resto Shore have teamed up to offer a special Summer Bliss package for you to indulge in. Get pampered with a relaxing aromatherapy bath, body scrub and body massage at Ann Jema, then head to Shore for a light and healthy tuna salad and fruity mocktail; mmmm… you’ll be completely relaxed and glowing in no time!

When: Throughout August and September
Where: Ann Jema (7/F) and Shore (3 & 4/F), The L Place, 139 Queen’s Road Central, Central, Hong Kong
How much: $1080

Shhh… don’t tell
The best parties are always the ones that everyone wants to keep a secret, but we’ve got the scoop on Hushup’s Speakeasy 1920s Night this Saturday! Throwing it back to the prohibition era in New York, this underground party will feature blackjack tables, a hair bar by Amika, dancers, a live blues and jazz band, a champagne reception and canapés… And of course what’s a Gatsby-style party without a free flow of 1920s drinks, right?! Remember, dress to impress and the secret password will be on your ticket.

When: 17 August, 7.30pm ’til late
Where: Somewhere in Central, the exact location will be revealed when you buy your ticket and on their Facebook page on Saturday
How much: $800 per person, buy tickets here or on the door

Lights, camera, action
Hong Kong’s very own Summer International Film Festival kicked off this week and will be screening renowned films both old and new across numerous silver screens in the city throughout the month. Including thrillers, dramas, documentaries and comedies from all around the world (including works from directors like Woody Allen, Jane Campion, François Ozon and Shane Meadows), you’re sure to find something to float your boat. Get munching that popcorn!

When: Until 27 August
Where: Cinemas all over Hong Kong, see screening schedule here
How much: $65-75, available via www.urbtix.hk, 2111 5999
