WEEKENDER: Get Glam with MAC, HK International Film Festival and More!

30 March, 2012

Yay! Easter is finally here… long weekend here we come! But before we kick back, relax and scoff all our Easter eggs next weekend, here’s our round-up of some of HK’s coolest events this week.

Spinning around
Australia’s hottest trance vocalist and singer-songwriter Emma Hewitt is in town for one night only at W Hong Kong; she’ll also be supported by much-loved DJ Ronski Speed, with special guests Ryan Li and Kendy Lam. Make the most of your pre-Ching Ming late night out and party til the midnight hours!

Get glam – and make a difference
Charity collaborations are all the rage these days but what we love about MAC’s Viva Glam initiative is that every single cent – not just a percentage of profits or a small fraction of the cost – goes to their MAC Aids Fund. This time, they’ve enlisted singing superstars Nicki Minaj and Ricky Martin (probably the first and last time we can expect to see them together!) to create two fab lip products – a bright pink lipstick for Nicki and a moisturising lip conditioner for Ricky. So now’s the time to get glam and make a difference; make sure you snag one before they sell out!

When: Out now
Where: See all MAC locations in Hong Kong here
How much: Lipstick $140, lip conditioner $130

Easter egg hunt
Celebrate Easter with some hip-hop mash-up all night long at FLY, who will be holding a Wasted Bunnies night where you get scavenge for FLY’s special Easter eggs, which will all be filled with intoxicating treats! Even better – it’s complimentary for girls, there will be free-flow selected cocktails from 10pm-2am plus some special offers on shots too. If you manage to recover in time for Easter Weekend, check out BLOOM’s scrummy Easter Brunch – where there’s optional free-flow of Bellini or Bloody Marys!

When: 4 April, 10pm; 8 April, 11am-4pm
Where: FLY, G/F, 24-30 Ice House Street, Central; BLOOM, 6/F, LKF Tower, 33 Wyndham Street, Central, Hong Kong
How much: Free entry for girls (10pm-2am), guys $100 (includes two standard drinks); $650 (plus 10% service charge) for brunch, including appetizer and dessert buffet, call 28106166 to book

Get the popcorn ready…
Sick of all the regular blockbusters at your local multiplex? How about catching some of the more eclectic films showing as part of Hong Kong’s International Film Festival instead? It comes to a close this week, but there’s still a full programme of loads of different types of movies to catch up on before it does, including shorts, foreign films, documentaries and much more.

When: Until 5 April, see full schedule here
Where: Various locations, see all venues here
How much: $45-100; www.urbtix.hk, 2111 5999; for showings at HK Convention & Exhibition Centre, www.hkticketing.com, 3128 8288
