Surviving the Sevens in Style

24 March, 2010
Sevens weekend is either the high light or the low point of the Hong Kong social calendar, depending on whether you love rugby blokes, drunken debauchery and silly costumes or not! Personally we never say no to any of the above, but whether you choose to throw yourself into the South Stands craziness or prefer to sip champagne on the outskirts, there’s an event for everybody this week. We wish your favorite team (and your liver) the best of luck!

What Women(Really)Want
The W Hotel, Wednesday 24th March
All we need to say is that this event will have the Italian Rugby Sevens team in their underwear! If that is not enough to get you over to the W Hotel in Kowloon then perhaps the free flow Absolut cocktail bar (8pm-10pm), mini massages and bachelor auction will sweeten the deal. Tickets are $298 in advance and $350 at the door. Reservations: 3717 2222 or livingroom.hk@whotels.com.

Louis Roederer Champagne Tent
Friday 26th, Saturday 27th, Sunday 28th March
If the craziness of Sevens is a bit too much for you, then the Louis Roederer Champagne Tent is the sophisticated option this weekend. Here you can rub shoulders with the rugby studs you just saw in action on the field and sip some bubbly. Entry is $300 for all 3 nights, which includes access to the Big Top Party. Tickets are only available in advance from Ironmonger Events.

We were able to score 2 tickets to the Champagne Tent, and we want to give them away to you! Send sassy@sassyhongkong.com your favourite Sevens story for a chance to win access to this VIP party!

Matteo Party Costume Hire
Don’t be caught on Pottinger Street, frantically scrabbling together a last-minute costume from that last pair of plastic comedy specs and a tacky gold medallion. Matteo Party in Causeway Bay has a huge variety of costumes for hire, from Bollywood Princesses to Japanese Anime characters. If you’re really pushed for time, they’ll even deliver to your office or home!

The Pawn – Girls Only Specials
Friday 26th, Saturday 27th, Sunday 28th March
If your guy is planning a boys-only weekend then grab your girls and head over to The Pawn. They are welcoming all ladies (aka rugby widows this weekend!!)with a complimentary glass of Perrrier Jouet chamagne in their Living Room and Dining Room. Even better is their 2 for 1 cocktail special that lasts all 3 days of the Sevens.

Sevens Village/Big Top Party – The Place to be if you are without a ticket this year!
Friday 26th, Saturday 27th, Sunday 28th March
Just because you didn’t score a ticket for inside the stadium doesn’t mean you have to miss out on all the action. Head on over to The Sevens Village and watch the live rugby for free while enjoying a refreshing glass, or two… or three, of Pimm’s. Make it a full day and stay after the final whistle when the Village turns into the annual Big Top Party. Tickets to the Big Top are $100 and can be purchased at the door.

Rugby Fever at RED SoHo
Party with the Fiji Team – Sunday 28th March, 8pm onwards
If you prefer to get up close and personal with your rugby heroes, don’t miss the Rugby Fever events at
RED SoHo. On Sunday, you can meet the Fiji team ($300) and watch a traditional kava ceremony. Call 8199 8189 to purchase tickets.

And finally… keep your eyes peeled for the Rwandan National team, the Silverbacks in the South Stands this year, who’ll all be dressed up as Father Christmas!
