New Year’s Resolution: Running

One of my New Year’s Resolutions for the year ahead is to teach myself how to run… I’ve always stuck to thinking that I just CAN’T run, that in some way I’m not built for it, and I’ve used that as an excuse for why I keel over and feel like I’m going to die if I have to run for more than about 10 minutes. Since we’ve done our Bikini Bootcamp though with Sassy, I’ve realized that actually the only thing holding me back from being able to run is my own lack of cardio fitness, and a big amount of laziness!

I’ve already begun trying to increase my stamina on the treadmill, loaded up my iPod with upbeat tracks and done some research on how to build up to running longer distances, but my biggest obstacle will always be the voice in my head that shouts, “this is boring!”, and tells me that it would be far more fun and less effort to just stop. I’m determined to get out of the gym and start running outside, perhaps getting up the guts to run the Bowen Road track, so I’m setting the goal in the New Year to be able to comfortably run 5k regularly. It’s going to be quite a lot of work to build up to (embarrassingly) but I’m looking forward to the challenge! (kinda)…
